It's ok, she was weird always nervous always having problems but she was one of my originals so i'm shook. If there is a bright side her passing will make dh much less likely to grumble about the suprise babies. One of those will be named Sallie because Bea was named after my mom and she was Sallie Bea so Bea will live on. Iv'e still got some of her eggs but I dare not hatch them for fear of a repeat Duece.

I would hatch them........but then I am a bit nutty.

I am glad you have chickies coming. :hugs

Enough of this sad stuff though ya'll, only you squatchers get what its like to lose an old lady in your flock and i'm so glad iv'e got ya'll. My little derp children did cheer me up. I heard Early,Cookie and Beavis carrying on awful in the coop so I went to go look. Everybody was just dead looking in the nest box so i'm thinking "wonderful a snake". I look and there is nothing but two eggs. I pull the eggs out they back up like iv'e got a grenade. My little ones have discoverd eggs, and apparently they aren't too sure about them.:)

I hate wasting things on animals.....what so yall use the bon broth for??? I wish I could use everything on all animals we butcher.
I make a slop to feed my chickens, any left overs, boiled down chicken carcass, stale bread, peelings etc. All gets cooked up. They eat every bit( i do take the bones out).

Well I’m finished I started a little after 2 and finished up a little after 5:30. I ended up doing my normal process on 5 birds instead of all 6. I slaughtered all 6 birds, but one of my Cochin/Dominique roosters was almost NOTHING but skin and bones. His brother (who was in the same run as him) was nice and fat. The only conclusion I could come to is that his was starving his brother. I thought some of my Buff Roosters were bad about keeping the others away from the food, but this guy lost most of his muscle mass, not just his fat. Half way through plucking him, we made the decision to put him in the gut bucket. I feel so bad. The Cochins and Cochin crosses, are so fluffy, it is hard to tell when they get underweight. And these roosters were SOOOO bad tempered that it was often painful to get a hold of them. I really should have killed them 2 months ago. My mom helped speed the evisceration process because she stuck around and picked all the feathers we had a hard time getting in the first round when we moved inside to the sink. I can hardly wait until my parents get their summer kitchen put in.

@rjohns39 I do use the feet. They make a LOVELY gelatinized broth.

LOL Chickassan! Silly kids!

I have been saving a funny.......now seems a good time for it.

So Sable is 9 months old now. She went into heat recently.
It appears that this "condition" has caused a few odd changes.

She has to pee lots more, she has to check the yard for bunnies every 9 minutes, and she is sleep walking.

The sleep walking is ok mostly.

A couple nights ago she was barking like something horrible was happening! It was 1am for cripes sake! The big guys were silent.....ok so it cannot be to bad!

I give up on it stopping after 5 minutes. I come down the hall and flip on the bright kitchen light. Ouch at 1am!
She continues to bark and bark not even noticing the light! What the TATER!
I go to her, pat her side which startled her but did not stop the barking!
She is barking at a tennis ball!!!!! Again What the Tater!
It must have been acting shifty or something.

The instant I picked it up she went all happy tail waggy.

What the TATER! I head back to bed thinking that has to be one shifty tennis ball!

Ugh, had me a big ugly cry earlier. Went to feed everyone and found Bea had passed away in the yard under a bush. I picked her up and checked her over, her belly was swollen, squishy and slightly bruised looking so something went wrong in the egg factory. She had had issues on and off since she started laying. She looked fine this morning and laid yesterday so I wasn't expecting her to peter out on me. I'm going to miss that wonky mutt she was a trip.
So sorry
