I used to use Goodwill and purple heart until I found out not much of the profits go to the cause.

That's where I am at LOL

I have snow on the way tomorrow night...on top of snow from last night
I feel the same about Goodwill.. I do shop there occasionally, but I feel that an unfair amount of profit goes to the higher ups & don't feel right about donating stuff to them. For clothes, I have a friend who had nieces who are close in age to my kids so I usually send stuff to her when I get a good size pile. I rarely have kitchen stuff that's in good enough condition to pass on. I did gift a tiara to the dance studio that's been sitting on my dresser unused for the past 4 years. I don't think anyone will miss it. My kids are past the dress up and wear a tiara phase.

Well, we ended up taking Gurtrude to the vet because she wasn't eating and her abdomen was really firm. Turns out she has a broken shell in her reproductive system and had 378 mL of fluid in her abdomen. She's home with Ceftiofur/Naxcel and Meloxicam. Her regular vet isn't in till Wednesday, so I'll be talking to her then about getting her spayed in the next month or so. Until then we just remove the fluid as needed and give her her meds. It's a good thing that eggs aren't a requirement for room and board, she's such a sweetheart.
Oh no! Do they think she'll be able to pass the broken egg? I remember reading something about how eggs that get cracked during the shell making process can be repaired, or was it farther down?

Seems like every spring these random grocery store hatching stories pop up.
I’ve heard the trader joe eggs have a very good hatch rate.

Hatching mystery eggs makes me both nervous & excited. If I had the space for it, it might be something I'd try. It would be interesting to see what you end up with (the answer would probably be a bunch of cockerels...).

We are supposed to get snow tomorrow, but i doubt it will last long.

Morning everyone.

Anansi,
I am really hoping everything goes well for your sweet little hen. I am wondering if your vet will surgically spay or do the hormone implant things. :hugs

Stacey,
For peas your area planting time is probably now. Most pea varieties I can find are the short varieties. I want to grow for the freezer so am looking at snap peas. They have longer poss and some of them have edible pods even. I will let you know as the season progresses what varieties do what and how I planned if you want. I will plant some short plants and some tall.

Cappy!
You tease us with your flowers! We are 12° here this morning.
It will be almost 2 months before our crocus pop up.

You need to move to VA!

Good morning folks!

I finally got some good sleep!

I was asleep before 10:30pm last night, Thing 1 woke me up at 6:15am, at 6:30am I told DH to handle him when it was clear he wasn't going back to sleep. I tried going back to sleep, but DH had put some electronic entertainment on for Thing 1 and he was joyfully singing and stamping and jumping along with the music. I was getting out of bed at 7am, when the power went out. Called the electric company, power wouldn't be back on until 10:30. Called work and told them. At 8:30 I was starting to get tired again and laid down. I pointed a fan at my face and turned it on to wake me when the power came back on and went to sleep. At 10:40, the fan woke me. I feel SOOOO much better

The shoulder/arm are also much better. Heat, ice, getting good sleep in my own bed, and not jouncing around in a car really seemed to help. I'm still going to the chiropractor tomorrow.

It depends on where you live for Trader Joes. I live in Woodland and Trader Joes is in Davis. The farm that sells the fertile eggs in in Sonoma County, about an hours drive away. If you get the eggs delivered on Tuesday and make sure to go by the Julian Date on the carton, you can do very well with fertile eggs. If your TJs is in Southern Ca and the sell fertile eggs, Not so much since that is going on 600 miles from the farm

Whole foods here also sells fertile hatching eggs that hatch well
