I didn't count my coop one night last summer.. never made that mistake again. Found a huge pile of feathers w/ a trail going into the woods behind the house.. ran in, like an idiot, and found a smaller pile of feathers. I assumed that she had made it through the night, but early the next morning had gone out to eat and a coyote got her. Glad your story ended better. Lots of lessons learned that day. My kids are still mad about that mistake. Did you give her a lecture about not wandering off from the group?Well I got up with the puppy this morning and was hoping to see that @CapricornFarm ’s bird had come home but I guess it’s too early ...
One night Corrine somehow missed curfew. (But I didn’t know it because DH had locked them up and even admitted he didn’t open the door to see if all were present and accounted for).
When I took the dogs out for last call there she was, all by her lonesome, hunkered down on the wee porch step by the human door of their coop.
Just looking like the yummiest predator snack...
I wish I'd have thought of that w/ my ex husband.. even if things didn't change it sure would have made me feel better.Morning all
rae, cap, apryl and anyone else who needs em...
Congrats stacey
I once knew a guy who had an enlightening experience, which he had truly earned... He woke up sewn between the sheets and couldn't move, while being beaten with a 10" cast iron skillet... It was a life changing event for him.
p.s. No it wasn't me.
So she needs the 'Stay with the group' lecture too? Yay for finding her safe!I found my pullet on the back trail to the house!
So happy!
That is super awesome! What a wonderful gift. I thought it was metal until you said it was plywood. You guys....look what my hubby made me! He was working on it in the garage for two days, it was a surprise...

I'll have to get a better picture when the sun is different.
It's Lafayette! He cut it all out of one piece of plywood with a jigsaw. It is beyond kickass!
Then he made a little fence out of tree limbs, and connected it to the run. Check it out....View attachment 1515002
Pretty awesome, eh?!
Awww they look so happy. Are they getting along well w/ the bigs?
Right?! I was dying yesterday.. we're supposed to get a break from the heat on Wed (weather people are liars so I don't believe it.) mid 90's til then. I kept having to take breaks yesterday. Ended up sitting for about an hour in the shaded area chicken watching as an excuse to not be in the sun.
So sorry about CC!!!!! Poor thing.Well my sis and I pulled carpet and started getting wallpaper down. I found out I have a secret passage too! For some reason the front closet in the living room connects to the bedroom closet. LOL My dad and I talked about what trees around the coop need to come down and I found out there is a pear tree and plumb trees right there. There are two way overgrown apple trees. A mulberry tree and a surprise cherry tree.
On a sad note I lost my CC girl. She wasn’t herself for a few days and when I checked her she was covered in pin feathers. So I thought an early molter. Last night she was sleeping on the floor. When I checked on her this morning her crop was full. I massaged it a little and left for house work. I got back and she was slumped on the coop floor. I have her some oil and sat and massaged her crop some more. It was like dough. I noticed her butt was a little dirty so I though a warm salt bath would be good. Clean her up and maybe get things moving. While she soaked she pulled her head back and I saw it ticking. I knew she wasn’t right. I pulled her out of the water and held her. She made a strange honk noise, flapped her wings and died.
Everyone else seems fine. No idea....

Yay for surprise fruit trees! Are any of them small enough that you can relocate away from the garage/ coop? If not then at least the chickens will get to enjoy a feast of fruit that drops. I spent a small fortune on cherry trees years ago... I literally got ONE cherry from the 3 of them, 1 bing and 2 black tartarian. They need to bloom at the same time to pollinate, but of course they ALWAYS bloomed wrong. I had them for years and they weren't more than a twig.. Gave them to a friend when my parents moved and she got buckets of cherries from them. All you need now is a peach tree!
@FlyingNunFarm I have zero skills and no upper body strength, but I have 2 hands, a dirty mouth, and buckets of sarcastic wit if you need a hand. I'm usually free every other weekend when my offspring are visiting w/ their sperm donor. I promise I won't randomly leave a rooster on your door step (maybe at the end of your driveway). Thanks so much @Anansi That person sounded very nice and a tiny bit lost and I knew you were the person to help!
Happy Sunday peeps, I hope everyone either has a productive day or a restful day- depending on which works for you.

Just remember that since it’s a forever type house, you don’t have to kill yourself “doing” everything at once.
I sure wish we were all there to help you whip your new house into shape.
I bet if all our skills were pooled together, it would be like a fairy godmother had pulled up in her carriage with a locked and loaded magic wand.
That is adorable. It reminds me of when I was trying to get Nibbler to drop the dead bird.. I was trying to knock her head against a bucket, but her body moved and her head stayed still... smh.
