~The Sapphire Gem~ A Breed's Chat Thread

Can anyone give me some advice about my SG? I am hoping I have three hens but have recently started questioning one of them just because of the huge red comb. No other signs of being a Roo, and they are right at 16 weeks but this is my first time having them.

Look like hens to me. Here is a photo of my flock. The big red comb is my roo. Bottom of the photo.

@Rpoytress They all look like my Sapphire Gems. I get 5 eggs a day from 5 birds in the pen, so they all must be hens. One of my SGs has a comb so large that it flops forward over her left eye. I feel bad for her.

Defintally a hen; SGs are one of those breeds that can have oftentimes have large combs in the females, the feather shape of this one is the tell tale sign she's a she!

Hi, I'm very late to the party but I have 10 SG's and I absolutely adore them.
My girls are going on 7 months old and are really just feathered puppies. Goofy, inquisitive, confident, and lovable. Quickly climbing the ladder of favorites around here.

I know there isn't much info to be had on them, as they are relatively new, but I'm wondering...
has any one had any of their hens go broody?

I have 9 Sapphire Gems from Hoover’s and they’re just at 16 weeks. One of them has developed a lot of red around her neck. She’s the only one out of the flock. Anyone else experience this or is she a special lady? 😊
