REALLY nice! The article tells, in fine fashion, how this chicken lady adapted and personalized a custom-built coop. There are lots of notes on safety and predator proofing, and some good tips on functional decorating and landscaping. This one's a "keeper!"

Thank you! Safety was #1 for the chicks, but making it functional & lovely is important too!

Nice idea, and easy to move around. I'd like to see some inside/structural pictures to help with a new build. And how in the world would you put 40 in there? Some layout pics or diagrams with measurements would help, a lot!

This is a really nice-looking set-up, not too big, solid, aesthetically pleasing. It would be perfect for a suburban setting where you want chickens but need to appease the neighbors (or Mom!) I'd love to see some how-tos or written descriptions, but there's nothing here beyond that lovely picture. This probably belongs in a "Coop Pictures" gallery, not in the"Articles" section.

This is a nice set-up, especially for a first-time coop-builder! Both the run and coop are spacious. The storage area is a nice bonus. I'd like to see (or read) some details on how the coop-to-run tunnel was constructed and attached, and what type of predator proofing was handled. All-in-all, very nicely done!
The edits covered it all! Really nice article ... and super coop and run set-up!

This is a wonderful coop and run. The lines are clean and simple, but appear much more complicated due to placement. I'd love to see a footprint and a few elevation sketches. Those and some end-of-project dimensions would bump this article up to five stars!
Love the round ventilation holes. How are they predator proofed?

As I have time over the next week I will sketch up a completed footprint and elevation sketch along with dimensions. I think I have about 60 pages of a sketch book filled up with my ideas and piece by piece sketches as I went through this project.
I am not sure if you are asking if the round ventilation holes are predator proof or the entire package. So I will cover both. The round ventilation are metal and they have been epoxied into their holes. As far as the entire build the 3 commercial windows has both standard window screen and a additional screen of hardware cloth that has been attached to a separate frame and mounted. The large end made window at the one end has hardware cloth sandwiched between the coop frame and the plywood with an additional standard screen framed and screwed in. All vents are either screwed or epoxied into place. Every access door on the coop has 2 barrel bolts and a security swivel hasp with a carabiner securing it. The door to the run has 4 points of security starting with 2 barrel bolts, a swivel security hasp with carabiner, and gate flip latch. The run is 100% enclosed with 1/2" hardware cloth (even under the eaves of the roof) that has been attached with hundreds of 7/8" crown staples. I have added a 2 layer predator barrier around the entire outside of the run, the first layer is 2' of 1/2" hardware cloth which actually runs under the run walls and folds up and staples to the inside, the second layer is 3' wide 1"x2" PVC coated welded wire fence which is stapled to the outside of the run walls. The hardware cloth overlaps 2' at the corners and the pvc wire overlaps 3' at the corners. I then secured it to the ground with close to 300 heavy duty landscape staples. I am adding a picture of the predator barrier to my story. Thanks

This is an inspiration for anyone working on a really tight budget ... or someone who just like the challenge! The idea is sound, but the electrical system needs some serious rethinking, if not total elimination. It just doesn't look safe, especially around water!

This coop looks intimidating, but the instructions clarify a great deal, so it's really not as over-the-top as it looks. Text quits about halfway through, but a multitude of pictures take up the slack. Most of the build is pretty clear. Nice Job!

This is a very helpful article. The instructions are all there, right down to an well-diagrammed diagram and an actual parts layout. The pictures are very supportive - and the captions will give you a chuckle!

This is an hysterically fun read and there are lots of good pictures and diagrams, but no instructions. If it were updated to include more construction details (talk to your Key Grip, he/she may have some good input,) this article would get a Five Star Review ... and likely a trip to the red carpet, via the stars!

This could be a really nice article if some How-tos were included. I especially like the oversized, movable roost structure in the main coop. Doesn't look like we'll get any more info, though, or even the updated pictures mentioned in the article, as the writer has not been active for 6 years. If anyone knows where to find them, drag them back! I'd LOVE to see how this big garage conversion worked for them. It's pretty impressive!

This is a really nice way to utilize a pre-fab coop. Some details on how you build that beautiful run, including what predator proofing you used, would go a long way towards helping someone else do the same. It really looks good!

This article doesn't have a lot of how-to advice in it, but the pictures explain well enough that how-tos aren't really needed. What a great idea - and a great rescue effort. Carpe Chicken, indeed!

Lots of info here! The instructions are clear and well supported by pictures. Did the articles on how to do the computer-based additions ever come through? If they did, then links to those would bump this article to five stars!

Thanks for the feedback. I've recently published the raspberry pi controlled automatic coop door article and linked it from this article.

Excellent article with beautiful pictures. Great for people who are too attached to their boys to send them to Freezer Camp, but also great for those who want a yard full of eye-candy without the "hassle" of egg collecting, broody boxes and such. And yes, there really are people who would like to have the chickens but don't want to be bothered about eggs and chicks!

Update - 2019 - @RoostersAreAwesome was my inspiration/support for starting my own Bachelor Flock. It has wavered between 4 and six fellows and has been an ongoing success for nearly two years, now. I LOVE my boys! Their beauty and antics make them the most colorful, entertaining bunch on the place! -

This is a beautiful set-up with nicely laid out pictorials, but ....
As a Coop building article, there arent; any instructions, plans or details on how it was done or why. That would help immensely for people who are looking to guild or upgrade their own facilities.
I especially like the low brooder run. Details on that would be a real bonus!

Very nice! "Garden-magazine pretty" setting! All this article lacks is some good how-to tips so people can replicate things like the full-box-wall door and the neat pineapple cutouts!

pineapple cutouts. I folded a piece of paper in half and drew out a half pineapple (can do hearts or whatevers) cut it out , therefore having a perfectly balanced pineapple. I then slammed my two, already cut to size 1x3's (1x4's , 6's... whatevers), together and transferred the image. Then used my jigsaw to cut out design. It was a little tricky and time consuming, and would have been easier with a scroll saw forsure. I like the charm so it was worth it.

Excellent ... and that goes for both the coop and the article! This compact coop and run live BIG. There are lots of great details on how things work, what worked out, what needed tweaking, and even some kudos to the inspirations for the changes. Kudos to the builders, as well. This is a VERY helpful article!
