Feathered Landings' Brooder in the Coop
We originally had 3 nesting boxes but our hens only used 1 so we decided to convert the wasted space into a brooder for our chicks.
Materials:
1 sheet of 4x8 plywood - $25
scrap hardware cloth- already had
staples for the staple gun - already had
screws...
Hi! I'm Rebecca,my family and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Last summer we got our first flock of chickens from an older farmer who had too many. WE LOVE THEM. We love eggs, and even though the chickens are older, they still layed enough eggs for our family of four. this winter...
My Brooder. I kinda figured it out as I went. I used 2 sheets of particle board, a 4x4 post, 2x3s, misc hardware, shingles and tar paper.
Just moved 14 chicks out to a larger pen and 5 turkey in.
Instant Cat-proofing of Basic Box and Light Brooder
Who needs a brooder, right? You just use a box and a light. But then we got a cat, so suddenly things had to be different. That's right - suddenly - no time to build stuff. I found some green foam squares designed as clip together matting at my...
Brooding Our Little Flock
My family and I are backyard chicken keepers that can only have a few hens at time because we live in a big city with lots of restrictions on keeping poultry. We do not plan to be hatching chicks regularly, so we needed something cheap and easy. I looked around for...
This is our brooder "Tank". I don't know if it will be accepted, since we didn't actually build it, except for the door and I didn't think to take pics of that process. But I wanted to share it with you because it has worked out great so far, and my chicks seem to be happy campers! Ok. Here is...
Our Brooder
We used a part of our Chicken coop. I sectioned off a 24" side of the coop with a plywood wall 29" tall.
the 1st 3 weeks there were in an area of 24"x 48" with a metal ring inside so there would be no corners.
after the 3rd week i open the rest of the brooder to 24"x96".
In the...
The Incredible Chick-quarium
View of the Incredible Chick-quarium from my desk.
Initially my plan was to "house chicks". I figured a nice big rubbermaid tub would do nicely -- so I took myself to a big box store to buy one. But the biggest tub I found was 50 gallons... fine for 5 wee...
Here is a picture of my "finished" brooder. I will post pictures of the "building process" when I get home.
I got the main structure of the brooder from Alohachickens. Her DH hated it, as it is ugly, and so it became ours. Cost $0
The original structure was just a cage with no top, 4 legs...
The Blue Brooder
The brooder came about when my 8 new additions looked crowded in their plastic tote at a few days old.
I sat down with a plan in mind and sketched what I wanted then went searching for supplies around the house. Having built a duck coop and chicken coop, I had left over...
Our Brooder Box
Here it is, our fold up brooder box! I spaced taking pictures while my husband was building it, but I have pictures of it all finished. It has had chicks in it since it was finished so I also can't take pictures of it all folded up. (Squeeeesh!) :gig
He used all materials...

Once my DH and I decided to build a brooder we did not have an actual drawn plan. What we did have was alot of reclaimed materials, an empty shipping crate (that we got from Craig's List last year) and a pressing need for a brooder, with an order placed with the hatchery for day old chicks.
The...
My Home Made Brooder!!
After having my 15 babies in smaller brooder for about 4 weeks I decided they needed more room. I had looked at tons of pictures so I had an idea of what I wanted. Hubby was at work and I got a wild hair to do it myself. Believe it or not the only thing I had help with was...
After looking at many brooders this is what we came up with!
We decided a brooder of this style is easy to clean and also easy to make.
The container was purchased at Walmart and was on sale for $9.00.
My husband then cut a whole in the lid with a jigsaw. Only half of the lid was cut.
He...
Stage II Brooder
Here at Bethany Farms, we hatch a good many chicks. I know that most everyone has a "tote" with a lamp and newspaper in the bottom, and that is a good place to start chicks. That is what we do for two weeks and then we move them outside to the Stage II Brooder. This brooder is...
~Brooder~
For our Brooder, I thought some of the garage shelving would work good, but how?
Then we went to the feed store to get stocked with chickie supplies and voila! THERE it was!...
i thought i'd use the shelving because the support braces are right angles, so i cut the back and front to...
My Brooder!
My hubby the great guy that he is, help me build this wonderful brooder!

PG's Hatching & First stage Brooder
I use a large 100ltr plastic storage box from my local home store
I then cut out a square hole. I made a plastic perspex lid with a handle & breathing holes drilled in it and used hinges to attach it to the lid.
To one side i drilled a hole to put my...
