@bgmathteach did you use a 1/2 inch bit for the adaptor? All of the instructions say 3/8, but that is for the red nipple drinker part. Also, seems you have to screw the red part on tight so that the gasket at the back of the adapter makes a seal with the wall. Is that right? Thanks!
1/2 inch bit works fine. I got one installed. However, the girls have absolutely no idea what to do with it. Has anyone had to teach their chickens to use a nipple waterer before?

Yes, that is right. As for the bit size, I don't remember...but the adaptors come with the directions, including the size bit. FYI: a small square cooler ( or LARGE round cooler) will be easier! I didn't drill one very perpendicular, and needed to use silicon sealer on that one...the others, just the thicker washer worked for them ... btw, I just love the size (2 gallons), seems perfect for me. However, if you like a bigger one, it will be easier to get the tight seal. (large one is just too big for me to man-handle, the 2 gallon ones are perfect.)

P.S. you trim the adaptor to the correct length......

Dakota isn’t feeling well (I think). I was carrying her and I thought she was talking to me. Turns out that the sound was coming from her other end, not her beak end. (Do chickens get gas?) :idunno
Yes, they do. Remember @BY Bob mentioning it about poor Hattie? The sweet lady had embarrassing gas...poor dear...so mortifying for lady!

Some fluffy Friday bottoms for all my today earned taxes! Yes, the youngsters only know how to travel at 'zoom, zoom' speed, hence the blurry bottom!

Yes. I showed my first chooks how the nipples worked, (I tickled one in front of them. They caught on quickly)

When you will be around all day...remove all water...and have only the nipple drinker. Tap the nipple so that it drips...with a hen right there. Repeat, and if you can do so without her freaking out...press her beak gently against the nipple so it drips on her beak. Repeat a few times..then observe. Usually one of your more curious girls will start pecking the nipple...and in no time she is drinking...most of the others will learn from her.

DO go out repeatedly during the day to repeat the process as needed. If you have anyone who is really resistant...you can put just a smidge of peanut butter on the nipple to encourage the pecking.

Seriously, mine learned in one day! A couple slower than the others, but they figured it out by watching their friends drink.
