We decided to use the trampoline until I can make pen for outside. Here are a few pics of my two bravest chicks. View attachment 3227540View attachment 3227541View attachment 3227542View attachment 3227543View attachment 3227544
Oooooh, you might have a boy there. In the first pic, the front-most one seems to have quite a bit of comb and a cockerel stance. Also has pretty rugged looking legs, but the other chick isn't positioned well enough to compare well. Anyone else want to confirm/negate? @rural mouse is usually pretty good at this , @BY Bob , too (when it isn't Jabberewocky!) (& @RebeccaBoyd , but I'm not sure if she is back on yet. :(:hugs)

I think so to, I believe he is a Welsummer. He is the boldest of them all. I need one or two gentlemen for the flock to free range. Its early but his behavior is saying boy 100%.

Definitely find a better supplier. If they are not storing well there will be problems.
He stores inside- it was likely baled damp, likely didn’t either wait for the dew to get off it, or had a rain on it if didn’t rake it over to dry underneath….

Regardless it’s awful, even the chickens are staying always from it 🥺

This behavior is not surprising to me at. Your tribe has suffered a lot of loss. An egg is new life. It represents an opportunity for the tribe to survive and continue. Maggie is one of your oldest hens, the matriarch of your tribe even. They are driven to continue the survival of your group. A new young laying hen is the best way for that to happen. Hence they are all celebrating her.

It is much like everyone acceptance of Phyllis hatching. Aurora physically destroyed Phyllis' nest the first time she sat. Earlier this year when Phyllis sat, Aurora literally gave Phyllis her eggs by laying them in the box with her. Phyllis is no longer abused but rather exalted by the tribe and supported. It is no accident that this change in behavior has happened since all of the death in my tribe as well.
That is a very interesting take on what certainly looks unusual.
Neither Maggie nor Diana (the two matriarchs) have ever been mean to the Hooligans, but previously it was more tolerant/ignore. Watching Maggie show Lulu all the nest boxes and then seeing them all sing for her was quite a surprise and rather special.

Good eyes. I hadn't looked that closely: awww! Cute! Trampoline with the net up...fantastic idea! I can never tell off the legs until after the comb/wattles show up. The lighter chick definitely pullet stances. Darker one, comb size....stance could be startled stand up, but could be a little roo. If the comb pops ANY kind of red color (straight combs will do so) in the next couple of weeks, expect to hear crowing from the little guy eventually. With the straight comb, wattles will follow the color almost immediately. On the other hand, startled pullet with large comb (like a leghorn) still possible....iffy though.

Welsummers have large combs, but if the chest out (and higher) is normal from that one, then yes you have a boy
