It is not possible, but deep down I think Raven identifies as a silkie. Same troublesome attitude.

I have a number in mind. If I do this I will also only be looking for sexed pullets. I am constantly asked if I have laying hens or pullets for sale. Most times that answer is no. I will not lie I am hoping if I do go back for chicks Tractor Supply still has Bielfielders now that I know the difference between males and females. If not me and grandma came up with a short list of other options. Bielfielders first, then in no particular order Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, Orpingtons and Easter Eggers. Mom would love some more buff orps. I sorta hope to find chocolate or lavender orps. That said it all depends on how many more hatch out.

Sounds like you have a good short list. If you go for the barred rocks, remember large/blurred headspot is usually a roo. Small/crisp headspot is usually a hen.

Alex has a problem with roaming chickens. His Hen-Rietta has taken to roaming to visit other roosters in the neighborhood and Alex is quite worried for her reputation.
He also has incoming chickens from next door - originally mother and babies, but now just babies as the neighbor has locked the mother in a cage

I don't have a VCR. I only have a Nakamichi Receiver 3, a Sony CD player, and a SMSL Sanskrit 6th. And the laptop that has all my music on it.

Sounds like you have a good short list. If you go for the barred rocks, remember large/blurred headspot is usually a roo. Small/crisp headspot is usually a hen.

And if you get Rocks, make sure that they are a heritage breed. You don’t want to feel my pain (having fake Rocks)

This is a good question! One I have been contemplating myself. I have 9 fully grown hens with room for twice that number BUT I also already get way way more eggs then my family can use. The original intent behind getting them was to simply have farm fresh eggs.

Then somewhere in the excitement and the realization of just how cool chickens really are the idea of more lodged in my brain.

I am looking for a nice trio out of the eggs I hatched out to keep. I will hatch out a few batches of eggs each year to sell to help with the cost of upkeep and keep any broody hens happy. But I want to keep my numbers well under 20.

Its hard to not want more though! They really are amazing creatures.
