Good afternoon 😊

It's chilly but not so icy . Madame will be walking later

We could design the perfect weather.
- one week a year of temperatures well below freezing to manage down pests
- each year just one 3-4 foot snowstorm for beauty and fun
- rest of year temps between 50-80 degrees
- rain 3-4 days a week between midnight and 4am
- wind never above 15mph

Fantasy weather tax: Piglet has her feathers back. She is turning pink in the face. Yesterday she looked in a nest box. This is timely as I am nearly out of eggs.

That is a great shot of piglet!

There was no egg in the nest box when I let the girls out this morning... Sybil was in the box but came out for breakfast. I waited a while and went back out to check on her. She was in the next box again, whining and grumbling. And no wonder! After 10 or 15 minutes of waiting and hanging out, I hear a heavy plop...

HOLY COW, SYBIL!

The carton won't even close all the way!

Honestly, as long as we do not loose power, and I can continue to have success with not having frost bite, I do not mind the weather.

We had a mild winter last year and this past summer we paid dearly for it.

Yellow Jackets, I cannot remember last time yellow jackets were so bad.

Ticks, omg ticks were terrible and were out early. Fleas were bad as well. Our cats and Ceecee are on flea and tick meds, which normally works great. This year it did not and for 2 months had a war on fleas with the cats.

I will also say the snow is beautiful. When I am not outside working in it that is.
I agree the ticks last year and this past Fall were terrible! Truly was plagued with them.

I use this for the cat; it does fleas, ticks, intestinal worms including tapeworms! Once a month treatment.

Missy is not interested in going outside she tells me.

That’s a whopping big egg!

What breed is Sybil to lay such lovely eggs?

Missy would like for the weather to be consistently around 20C (68f) year round, so she can go out and catch squirrels.

She told me to tell you it would be ok to have overnight temps around -5C for about one month over the holidays with morning snow for kiddies to make snowman, but melted by afternoon.

Fluffy Butt Acres Synopsis 1/7 - 1/11

Last week's synopsis thanks to RC: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-28289758

It is COLD in almost all of USA. Everyone stays warm! You are going to find lots of winter whining posts this week. With lows been in the 20s, I am going to whine about it too. I did not move to the south for this kind of weather. However, Rebecca reminded us that at least it's good for pest control. Another week and maybe it will get warmed up.

And @GregnLety 's "little Red" is in caption contest if you want to contribute: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-28308470

She's just some kind of RSL. Maybe golden comet but I know they're all more or less the same thing.

That was truly a big egg. My Dakota lays super big eggs like that too. I don’t think that it’s good for her to be laying eggs so big. :idunno
I know, I feel bad for her 😭 I hope it doesn't become a regular thing. Especially at her young age. Hopefully it was just a fluke!

My Ash laid a couple double yolkers the first two or three months she laid. I think Kasumi laid at least one too. It's common for new layers to have at least one double yolker egg.
