Not having a good day here.
Mel got attacked by a Goshawk. She was either lucky, smart of fast. She's been attacked before. She's Treacles mum and I've posted about her defending Treacle when he was a chick from the Goshawk before.
Difficult to get decent pictures one handed and close up.
She has one puncture and rip on her left side which is the worst of the injuries. The puncture is quite deep; the rip nothing major. On the other side she has a short rip but I can't see a puncture as such. A couple of bald patches under her right wing which while not pleasant aren't serious.
I've cleaned her with sterile water and sprayed Chlorhexedine into the wounds while holding them open. I've also given her a half dose of Metacam. Not much else one can do with these types of wounds. She looks particularly distressed because she's moulting. This hasn't helped reduce the damage, or her ability to escape so she's done well.
To add to it all, Hurry is limping. I assume she pulled something in the panic when the strike happened. I did get a brief look at her but she worked her way deep into the bamboo so I can't inspect her properly until she comes out.

That looks very painful! She must've been terrified poor thing.

Depends on the values of the parents.
There's a little island off the UK called Ireland. A further bit of that is sectioned off.
It's a long story. But, the hatred persits, not because of recent events but because the adults teach the children at an early age to hate. They pass their values down to their children. I can't see that as being good.

How many pictures did that cost me Bob?

I was also thinking that if a parent is a narcissist, you wouldn’t want them to pass their values onto their children.

Because I didn’t get to spend much time with her, my chicken tax picture is of Bessie. (And also baby Charlie). :love

What kind of bin chicken is this exactly @LozzyR ? It looks like a heron to me, but here they are primarily fishers, of fish and froggies alike 😕
Yes, I was thinking heron too. Bin chicken usually refers to the Ibis ~ but some places may use it in a more generic way...:idunno

I’ve been doing a little long term planning garden wise... and it has been expanded into hedgerows for chicken cover. My seeds just came in the mail (they cleared customs!!! Yay) I’m planning to plant a Blackthorn hedge, prunus spinosa, which should provide both a cattle barrier and plenty of cover for the free range ladies. Also apparently good for making Gin and tart preserves.
I can help you with the gin recipe when you get to that stage.

I'm so sorry, Shad. I know these things happen with your set up but It's still distressing. She's done well to get away. I've read backwards [sorry, Bob, I know that distresses you] so I'm relieved she's doing ok.
I don't care how you read the thread. You do you. I just can't do that. I try to respect the artist and read it the way they intended. 😉
