Where was BY Bob?

@CrazyChookChookLady
texted me on Friday, @micstrachan reached out here. I have been quite absent this weekend. I am only caught up on this thread. I'll be days digging out on everyone else's threads.

What could drive me to fall so far behind?

COVID

The good news I did not have it.

The bad news is that my youngest daughter and her fiance decided that since they will likely not be able to have their dream wedding in Amalfi in April, they were going a have a simple, civil, ceremony at their house on Saturday. We drove out Thursday, prepped all day Friday, had the ceremony Saturday afternoon, and drove home today. A bit of a whirlwind, but we pulled it off.

Here we are with my daughter and her new husband.

The cake was a gift from one of their friends despite the fact that she could not attend. She made it herself as her gift to them. The only people present for the wedding were the parents of the bride and groom and the officiant. None-the-less, we made a great day of it.

Congratulations all round. :hugs 🥂

It's no secret that my high production hybrid hens have reproductive issues, and I've seen some strange things left lying around, but this one seems the strangest of all. Have any of you ever seen anything like this?

This is the strangest looking "egg" I've ever seen. I'm sure it came from Mrs. Howell. It's frozen solid so it was deposited sometime during the night.

I've been wondering for some time now if these problems are severe enough to warrant culling as a way to alleviate suffering, but for the vast majority of the time she doesn't appear to behave any less chickeny than any of the others. I really can't tell if she is suffering. When I talked to our local vet a while ago about these issues his response was, "Most people around here just break their necks."

Thoughts?
You may not be able to tell from the picture, but it's more like a yolk and a tube-encapsulated white. There was no shell; this is how I found it.
Could the tube be shell membrane surrounding part of the egg contents?

Good news on both fronts! I am walking mostly normally again, but very delicately, and I have trouble reaching for things in front of me and standing for long periods, but the back is getting better.

Even better news, all 40 chickens showed up for bedtime last night! I have no idea where they went, we scoured the area, I kept the free range flock in later than usual yesterday morning hoping the missing pair would show up trying to get into feed and their friends. Nothing in the morning except four fluffy black bum feathers eventually found mid field. No one ran to greet the flock when I released them either. Everyone got a stern talking to about bedtime and coming home to roost.
Yay on both fronts!
Ditto! :clap

Daisy, the greatest hen ever, started to penguin 3 days before she passed. I forced myself to find you a photo so you can really learn what it looks like. Ironically on her last day she was walking normally. 😢😢

They look like this. This is Daisy at the end with Lilly. 😭😭

Aww. Poor Daisy the greatest hen ever. Thank you for posting this so people can learn, even though it was painful to do so.
Ditto, just what I wanted to say. I wasn't sure how the penguin pose looked either. Thank you Bob.

Congratulations on the wedding and your new son-in-law!

And that gold dress!!! Am.A.Zing!!!!

It's just so hard to see her that way. I had actually forgotten how bad it was, maybe blocked it from my memory is a better explanation. When she started to penguin the discussions started about helping her along. A few days later she made the decision for us.

Here she is walking fairly normally right before the end.
