Bored Chickens

What do chickens do in a blizzard? Pretty much what humans do. Nothing! The last time we had a storm like this was in 2016 and it caused me to build the larger coop. The big coop is working just like it should. Plenty of room for them to hang out. I swear no one moves in this video. I love how Aurora just stares out the window.

I wonder if they're using all their energy keeping warm.

Wow - mine were out in the run with the frigid wind parting their feathers so I enticed them into the Palace by scattering their regular food on the floor (they fall for that every time!). But I a glad they are out of the wind and beginning to get ready to roost. It is 25F in the Palace which honestly isn't too bad but temperature set to plummet in the night.

I’m feeling bad for you peeps having such a cold front. I’m sending you some California sunshine 🌞
It’s cold out, but sunny here. 2A7C843C-1E42-4E05-8890-1CD600C2BCE1.jpeg

@ChicoryBlue I am glad that someone at least got them out of the weather, and I like to think that anyone motivated enough to rescue them will be good chicken people and provide a good home. I am also very happy that you still tried, but not as happy as I am sure Queenie is. She wouldn’t be making it alone with that weather coming in! I would see if you can connect her with her flock, but barring that I am sure you can give her a good home

Yeh. Catching and transporting chickens is not something anyone can do, it takes equipment and skill. This makes me think they were "chicken people" like us.

I like that idea, but I realize I feel so invested in her care that now I want to vet the place that took her flock mates before handing her over!
If you want to keep her, get one of her friends for her. Give her someone she knows for support during and after integration.

Make sure nobody is stuck roosting outside!
I watched them get up on the roost. Aurora picked on Sydney and Sansa but she did it half heartedly and no one ran out of the coop.

Aurora did start out roosting in Phyllis' spot next to Hattie which caused Phyllis all kinds of consternation but she soon left and Phyllis settled in.

All are nice and tucked in.

I am now getting alerts on the heavier snow bands. That is new this storm. I have never gotten those before.
