I've got a lot to say on the subject but I would probably be banned from BYC.

I am guessing we are of like mind.

I do believe we all share a fairly similar opinion on that front here... I will still eat chicken, and eggs, but I at least want to have them all have happy, clean lives, and the absolute least amount of suffering as possible.

On the “ownership” of animals point, a lot of the way I think of “My” hens is of my responsibility to them. I take ownership of them in that I take responsibility for their welfare, and I will protect them from as many threats as I can. I also appreciate their contributions to me, especially those of the meat birds.
