They aren’t even a year old yet! :barnie
Holly started laying at 5 1/2 months old. Laid for about 2 weeks and went broody, hatched her first chicks at 6 1/2 months old. Bunny and Clover also went broody and hatched before a year old. Bunny just hatched her 2nd clutch and does not turn a year until the end of the month.

Lilly has a strongly sculpted feather / body shape, I never realized it was like that. Holds her wings in tight, well-tucked under her broad breast feathers. Above and below her wings there is quite a change of width between her pantaloons and her rump feathers. Remarkable! She doesn't do a lot of antics, right? You've called her serious. And the crown is heavy. And she furrows her brow at times. Could you call her rather steadfast and unflappable, even relatively calm, as far as chickens go, or not? She looks quite stately in these pictures. Love it! :love
You are correct in describing her shape. She almost has an hourglass look to her. This photo looking down on her captures it somewhat.

I think steadfast is a great descriptor for her. Lilly does not frolic like I have seen other hens do. Daisy, the greatest hen ever, could be silly at times. You could almost see Lilly rolling her eyes at Daisy.

Some hens will skip at times. Lilly does not. She does not run often and never runs while flapping her wings. How undignified.

Sidney is really startled and will take flight immediately. Lilly doesn't startle easily and she will back away before she will fly.

She is not super affectionate towards me but she is unafraid and I can touch her whenever I want.

We used to think that Lilly was mean. Much in the same vein in which Sansa can be viewed right now. When Lilly was at the bottom of the order and new chickens were being added, she tortured them. She would go out of her way to make them miserable and scare them. In fact she tortured Aurora and Maleficent right up until Patsy passed. When she ascended to #1 she became a much nicer hen. Now she enforces rule with a look from her furrowed brow. Sometimes a vocalization is needed. Rarely if at all does she peck. (Unless it is to chase Phyllis around. 😕)

I do love having her at the top of my tribe.

Gezzzzz!

And she is broody for the 3rd time at 18 months old. So yes I caved since I will have a hen to raise them, she is on day 3 of incubation of the final 8 Drumstick eggs.
My worst banty from last year & the nut job who went broody as soon as she began laying are sitting for me now. I'm about to put fertile Campine & Aracauna eggs under them & hope for pullets. My 1st time doing this so a tad worried.

If my broody girls have taught me anything it is to just breath and step back and let them do their thing. I watch them like a hawk the first week as they tend to not to want to come off the eggs so if they go longer then 2 days I remove them so they can eat/drink and poop. After that first week they settle right into the routine and come off themselves like clockwork once a day. Then at the end a day or 2 before the chicks hatch they'll come off for that final time and whereas before they might be off for maybe 30 minutes they will take up to 2 hours before returning to the nest. This is normal and ok as I think they know the chicks are due to hatch and they will not move until that final egg has hatched.
