I can see their daddy coming through in both boys. They are learning how to strut and pose for the camera just as he did.

It is startling when you can see her eye. It only happens during molting season although we did get special scissors so we can safely trim her feathers around her eyes. These are great - and I particularly love that second picture of Phyllis where we see her eye! Hardly ever see her eyes! It is startling. But nice!![]()
It is easy to do that.I think that my hens are getting too fat![]()
They do have the whole yard to run around in, but I keep giving them more treats than I should

I just love this photo! Great shot!I caught Annie with her mouth full!!
My Mom's garden has copious amounts of weeds which she shares with the chickens. They're happy to help!
As much as I loved and miss him, I know he was not perfect and had his faults. It is also a shame that I lost him at 18 months old. He was just now really coming into his prime and I could get a clear picture of what I was working with. As far as the marans standard goes he had a slightly high tail set, a halo around his neck and a few parasitic white feathers popping up in his toe feathering. His best attributes was he was wide, heavy and had a temperament to die for. Frankly for me, I value temperament above all else, who wants a perfect rooster if he is a devil to live with. I'm now standing back and nitpicking traits on his sons. So far Basil has a better tail set then his father, but, the tip of one tail feather is white. It is a older feather and he should loose it in the next juvenile molt so we'll see if it grows back. Basil is going to be big, but, I think he wont be as broad as drummie. He does so far have his father's temperament and being the new top rooster at 5 months he's not let his teenage brain get the best of him thank goodness. Bubba on the other hand, why was I not paying attention to this young boy before now. At 11 weeks he's built like a tank. Wide, thick legs and a broad back already, he may very well end up being stockier then his daddy. His tail set is good although a tad bit long. Over the next couple weeks his coloring will start to come in so I'll have to be on the lookout for the white. Bubba is sweet now, but he's not a teenager yet and he wont have Drumstick to learn from so I'll have to watch him super close to correct any unwanted behaviors if they pop up. If I'm fortunate though, I hope by this time next year to have 2 very handsome gentlemen strutting around.Yes, I miss Drumstick too!![]()
Jaffar is built like a tank too! A little bit smaller one, but a tank nonetheless! As much as I loved and miss him, I know he was not perfect and had his faults.
