Lilly has a strongly sculpted feather / body shape, I never realized it was like that. Holds her wings in tight, well-tucked under her broad breast feathers. Above and below her wings there is quite a change of width between her pantaloons and her rump feathers. Remarkable! She doesn't do a lot of antics, right? You've called her serious. And the crown is heavy. And she furrows her brow at times. Could you call her rather steadfast and unflappable, even relatively calm, as far as chickens go, or not? She looks quite stately in these pictures. Love it! :love

Oh

Oh good grief. Oh poor Ester.
A little warning is needed. Oh no. Oh. Oh I can’t bear to look. Oh that looks so uncomfortable. Oh it looks itchy. Oh oh oh.
Please tell me everything is OK now. Please tell me that doesn’t happen every year.
Oh my. I am going to have nightmares about that.
🙁
Yes, Ester recovered with heat and tube feeding for two weeks indoors. She had that hard molt in the middle of winter. She’s going through a mild molt right now, so I hope she gets it over with before winter. I think she quit laying permanently after that, however.

So sorry if that was shocking for you!

So glad she did OK. I don't know what it is about those hard molts but I just can't bear to see how uncomfortable they look!
