I would not worry too much if she did not fight you.

Mine tend to become standoffish during molt. Hattie started before I even knew she was molting. In fact I was concerned for her health so I took her off the roost one night to check her crop. I could immediately feel the new feathers and put her back. I provide higher protein feed and more protein snacks while they are molting. Hattie isn't really interested in her favorite food, corn, while molting preferring higher protein food like grass and bugs.
That was like Maggie last year - she stopped eating commercial feed and treats but would go outside and dig up worms. She has started molting again now so I am keeping an eye.

I was trying to get a decent mug shot yesterday of Poppy but it was late when I took the photos. I didn't even upload them until this morning. Rosie finally was able to start in person school yesterday and last night I spent a hour filling out the paperwork that the school sends home every year. I'm going to be honest, if your child has been in the same school since day 1, and if nothing has changed why do I need to fill out about 50 forms of the same stuff when in all honesty only maybe about 5 forms were needed. Oh well, she had a good day, loved her teachers and while I will not question she did better last year with one on one attention she missed her friends. These are the 2 pictures of Poppy that turned out semi decent. I've noticed something with the silkies, their feathers look and feel like cat or dog fur.

You know that I do. I get that everyone is vested in this project right along with me and I love it. Please do not stop with the suggestions. You did your own integration and look at your tribe. I am always open to good ideas.

I think that statement might have been for me as much as for you all. The incident with the first batch of chicks may have led to me needing to publically remind myself that I have done this before.

There are no guaranteed outcomes on any of this. Phyllis may not like them. They may not like her. I can only provide the opportunity for them to become friends as I did with Sansa and Lilly. They get to decide the rest.
Your new chicks are adorable, I'm loving the colors and hairdo's they are getting. Hopefully Phyllis makes friends with them. But you know, they could very well make fast friends with one of your unexpected girls like my silkies did. Who would have thought that when it came down to it that Butter would latch onto them like she has.

Well If it could go wrong with Holly setting this time around it did. I gave her 8 eggs when she went broody. She did everything right but a week in had terrible rains and flash flooding, her nest got wet. She refused to move so I rebuilt the nest for her. 2 1/2 weeks in had a egg explode under her. My god the stench was terrible and it got all over her and the remaining eggs. Cleaned the eggs as best I could, stripped and rebuilt the nest again and this time had to clean Holly. She did NOT appreciate it at all but after 30 minutes got all the goo and stink off of her. She had 2 chicks start hatching but die under her before they finished. Upon examination they never absorbed the yolk sacks and it looked like blood vessels got hit and they bled out. She had 2 chicks successfully hatch and she came off the nest with them yesterday. Did eggtopsies on the 3 that were left. 1 never started to develop but the other 2 I think the chicks died around the time the egg exploded under her. The 2 that made it are very strong and healthy. Again these 2 were Clover eggs that hatched and 1 has clean legs and 1 with feathered legs.

Princess had a bad time, Amber was snatching the food out of her beak and both stopped her sharing food then just ignored her. I couldn't take anymore. So made the other two eat together and made sure she ate well on the other side of the wire.

Later I took her aside gave her mealworms and sunflower seeds in a fresh egg before giving her that well needed lap cuddle.
She almost fell asleep and remained there relaxed a good time before I integrated the three again with more food and the remaining egg.
Thank goodness that seemed too do the trick.

I hope carrot tops won't hurt her because she's having her fair share today.
It's almost as if she knows big mama chick has her back and she's more confident.

There's a lot of work going on inside my home but I keeping checking to see they are all doing ok.

Will make sure a good amount of protein is in their last meal before bedtime.

Thanks Bob :)

What I'm thinking is, due to the fact that she has been bullied so much, she is not being as kind as she should be. :( It's sad.

Maybe one of your other girls may be a little more trustworthy.

"They could very well make fast friends with one of your unexpected girls" .

That was my exact thoughts on this problem, and if that happens they will be a lot safer :)
