This is a mule deer. We have white tails more down along the creek bottom, and a few antelope (I've been informed 52 head) in the valley. All have been known to be meals on our table (along with elk), just not from so close to the house.
DH is a sausage maker, and we do custom work and a local pit in an order for Venison that was just sitting in his freezer but his wife wouldn’t eat… doesn’t like it. So we were expecting local white tails, the usual little local variety… he deposited the frozen deer in the box of our truck. AB mule deer…, filled the 8’ box, it was pretty much a full week of work!

Is Sydney trying to Crow?

There were weird noise coming from the complex this morning and I caught this on video. Poor Betty needed to lay an egg but what was Sydney up to?

When she yelled and flapped at the same time, yes I think that was a hen crow. That's how Mary did it when she could hear Rocky crowing up the street.

Btw, Bob, I made a start constructing the roosting box! There are two photo posts and some discussion if you want to take a look.

I am learning so much (I know nothing about horses so that isn't so difficult!). I thought horses slept standing up. Apparently not. For some reason I find Dirt curling up for a nap unbearably cute. :love
Oh they are cute when they aren't getting into trouble hahaha.

My Arab mare can undo door latches and pull doors open, she can also untie knots. Trouble is she also lets everyone else out haha!

At night when I can't sleep with my leg spasms painfully watch the barn cams, check out the horses and chickens. I never have any issues with the chickens, they sleep quietly.

The horses tho not so much! At least twice a week someone is escaping haha, Reenie broke her stall guard and was loose this morning and ate the chickens feed, I had left out the feeder and she tipped it over and chowed down on chicken food!! Hope it's horse compatible.... 😲

She also left a lovely pile of fresh manure in the alley which the chickens went wild over this morning when I let them out of the hen house 😆 YUMMY!
