Made them what's suppose to be a roost for the flock ,but they only perch on it occasionally. Cant get them to sleep on it.
Does it get nice and dark in there and is it free of drafts? Maybe round off the edges of the perches. It certainly looks lovely and roomy. 😍

I have a led shop light that we leave on 24/7 they perch on it occasionally but dont really get on it.

I think I’m going to have to have Chickie put down. :hit She looks really miserable this morning and while she ate some cheese, she left most of her pork mince. She’ll preen every so often but either stands around doing nothing or sits in the garden and has a snooze. I don’t think she’s getting any better. :hit
Sad reading Lozzy.

I've had poor luck with reintegrations so what I did was partion off a corner of the run to confine my limper till she got better. It was big enough (guessing 24"x36") so she could turn around and take a few steps but small enough to keep her from agravating the injury. Also I put a lid on it so she couldn't jump. That way she was still "Part of the Flock" and while she did go to the bottom of the pecking order they didn't try to kill her when reintegrated. The carrier is a good idea but I would at least leave her with the flock. I also gave limpy her own feeder and waterer and had to collect eggs .

Yes, that sounds like might be better.

I've never been convinced that integration works. They will try and get along in forced confinment but given a choice it seems much like people, they have a preference regarding who they live with and team up with.

We are having a rough time lately on these threads. All the hugs to you Lozzy and Valerie. If they don't make it at least you know that they had good quality of life with you.
:hugs:hugs 😢:hugs:hugs

Thanks ACM and to everyone else. I couldn’t get over how much she wolfed down her evening cheese though! She had great beakfuls of it and she practically inhaled it!

My advice is to get rid of any lights you leave on that are visible to the chickens.
Take down the perches you have built and replace them with one or two branches of about one and a half inch diameter at a hight of no more than one foot above the nearest large flat surface.

If she's not moving around much during the day she might not eat much food. I've noticed a difference between what the slower and faster hens eat.

I would always choose what is right, if only I knew what that was.
And that's the rub. It's not always clear. So you have to do what you think is right. It can be so very hard using you heart and mind to make such a decision.
