"BAWK" means Spaghetti
On Thursday night I gave the big girls spaghetti as well as the littles right before they roosted. We all know how the littles wanted to roost on me afterwards. So Friday night I go out to let the littles out again and the bigs meet me on the deck. So I grabbed the bag of mealy worms and sat down on the deck to feed them from my hand. Patsy loves to eat mealy worms from my hand, as does Hattie. I threw some on the deck for Lilly and scooped up a handful for Hattie and Patsy. Hattie went to town on them. Patsy would have any. What chicken doesn't eat mealy worms?! I brought them right to her beak, nothing.
Instead, she bawked at me.
Bawk, bawk, bawk.
Another handful for Hattie.
Bawk, bawk, bawk.
Another handful for Hattie.
Bawk, bawk, bawk.
Eventually, apparently disgusted, Patsy left the deck. Since she is alpha hen, the others soon left too. I went inside and put the mealy worms away.
When I came back out to watch the littles, Patsy came running to the deck again. Bawk, bawk, bawk.
Then it hit me. She wanted more spaghetti. I went in and I came out with leftover spaghetti. I grabbed a handful and held it out for her. She started chowing down. The other two had trouble even getting a noodle. As soon as she was done eating her pasta she went to roost, happy as can be.
Here is Patsy getting what she really wanted.
