So sorry for your loss of Ruffles, were you able to save Thistle? A broken leg is a hard thing to nurse an ewe through. They both had wonderful lives with you though, I’m sure.
Predator losses are one thing, poorly trained dogs are another. She should be brought to justice. Here if a dog damages livestock it is basically a death sentence for it. The owner is 100% to blame for the damages, and in the case of a ewe can also be fined for lost future offspring. The dog is very lucky. I would not have let her or her dogs leave until the authorities arrived, and I can’t say I wouldn’t have shot the dog.
I was in the local SPCA with a friend who is looking to get a dog last week, and all they had there were very large puppies, an 11mo husky x and Five pitbull crosses, all under 18 months and all owner surrenders. Don’t bring home more dog than you can manage, and train them properly! There are only usually Bad Owners.
