No. You can classify it as an anthology but it is 1 book. If you're Jewish you have the Torah, not the bible. If you're Catholic your bible is edited slightly differently but it is still one book. If you're not Christian it is still one book, you just don't believe what it teaches. :) My man says I'm pedantic. :D
I believe the Torah is actually made up of certain books of the Old Testament (I think the ones with all the 'begats'). So the Torah is not an alternative to the bible it is a subset of the Old Testament. And yes, I too have been accused of being pedantic!

Exactly. The Torah is the 1st 5 books of the O.T. The Bible consists of both the old & new testaments, including the prophets & the histories. Christians need both because the New is a scion of the old & you cannot really understand the new without the old. Revelation is a classic because John is quoting a whole heap of old testament prophecies, including Enoch. It's no wonder people get confuddled when they read one without the other.:gig

Got it.

It could very well be, depending on the parents. I can think of certain extremist religious groups with fairly concerning beliefs, or you could use some modern cults as an example.
 which raises that old gorgon as to who actually *owns* children ~ the parents or the state?
