I'm not sure that Queenie is eating any of the free-choice grit that I put out for her in the brooder. She is eating the 18% All Flock dry and also made into mash, and some treats - a little scratch and a couple of peanuts broken up. I smoothed the grit bowl over and I don't see any digging in it. Should I put some in her food? I haven't checked her crop in two days, I can do that later tonight.

She lets me clean her beak with my finger when there's mash stuck on it and she hasn't wiped it all off, and let me gently stroke her under her chin / front of her neck on those feathers today too.

By “grit” we are talking North American right? stones? Not Australian “grit” which is an oyster shell type supplement? She might just not need any right at the moment because she was free ranging and would have gotten some then, would be my guess.

I've been out with the various tribes much of today.
This Donk. I keep worrying about her because she isn't eating much of the commercial feed. Recently I've been crop checking her at roosting time. Most evenings it's bulging but her crop is tiny conpared to say her daughter's Knock.
Her beak is a bit out of joint because Myth has been a bit bossy recently.

Donk looks great. Do you have the means of weighing her? You could monitor her weight for awhile if you’re worried.

Really? Why not? Buttercup (might Light Brahma) doesn’t preen her butt feathers very well anc stands patiently while I crunch the cuticle between my fingernail and thumb. She loves it!

I was concerned that I might break some of the other new feathers if they were struggling. My girls don't have a lot of patience. I wish they did, my fingers twitch to help them preen!
