I've decided to adapt one of the duck sheds to make a coop for Treacle and Moon.
I don't think Treacle is ever going to allow Cillin into the main coop again.
Jenny's and Solomon's main shed is large enough to put a divider in (there was one in before) and they've been sleeping together anyway.
I can't blame Treacle for his behaviour. He's learnt it from his dad who has spent the last year chasing Treacle away fromm the hens unless Treacle has been on escort duties.
I didn't really want to meddle in this but Fat Bird and Fudge and at times Tackle are very reluctant to go into the coop at night now that Cillin isn't there.
It's a terrible shame but I can't make the pair get on and there is no way I could rehome either; it would just break my heart.
Cillin is fine roosting in the house at the moment but he should, as they both should, be with their hens.
I think Treacle and Moon will make a couple. I'm not entirely sure how this will work out,

This seems reasonable to me. I'm glad you have thought out a solution for both. I'm sorry the injury has forced the situation but this was going to happen at some point anyway. Wasn't it?

To everyone, this is why I bought some a long time ago for my med kit. To everyone who reads this thread and does not have good access to medical care for your chickens, please consider stockpiling what you might need now. After @Kris5902 problems with getting antibiotics and now this, even me getting coconut oil to help Hattie when you need it, it is never there soon enough. It just makes sense to purchase ahead of when you need it.

Yes! And I plan on slowly continuing to add to my “pet supplies” from your wonderful country as I can... although I would rather get some in person once the Covid is less of an issue. I was good and didn’t put a “no!!! Give them all to me” response to the community FB forum “bring your unused/expired meds here for safe disposal” bulletin. (See I’m not always a rabble rouser!) it’s the silly restrictions on pet medications here that get in my way, and the exorbitant prices at the vet... if you can get it... do it! One of my first matters of business after moving here was to stock up our first aid supplies for people, (joint braces, tensor bandages, gauze pads, antihistamines and antibiotic ointments) and once I started with chickens for them as well (just no good chicken drugs available). DH was aghast at all the braces we “didn’t need” I was buying, until he turned an ankle, needed a knee brace, and developed tennis elbow. So far the only things we haven’t used are the wrist braces, they may have been excessive... but better safe than sorry!

Yes, I now know I have to let you all know. I've seen @Ribh do it and so I thought it made sense.

I've never had to do a beak repair myself. I guess you'll just have to examine the crack and judge if it will get any worse without intervention.

He's moving much better today. He's starting to walk more and finally grooming.

Aww, that's lovely.

I didn't even notice the ratty quilt until you pointed it out! I was too busy admiring darling Josh. Perhaps you could put the quilt in a doona cover to help it last longer? Unless you know someone who is good at patchwork.

I would find it amazingly helpful if you could share what you think I should have in my chicken medical kit. I don't think I am as well prepared as I should be, but it is a bit hard to figure out what I might need from all the different pieces of advice on the emergencies threads.

The crack isn't your fault. I wont bore you with the material science but once a beak is broken, or badly cut any further stress, even through pecking can and often does promote crack propagation up the beak.
You can carefully run a seam of super glue along the crack provided the crack is very fine which will help. What you don't want is glue in the crack. The glue prevents the two sections of the crack from rejoining. The best way to do this is to drop a blob of glue on you finger, wait a couple of seconds for the glue to start to solidify and smear it along the crack.

Tried to get a pic of the beaks, Peanut and Hazel, cannot get it to focus on them, maybe too close? But this one's good for Mugs Monday! Hazel. The oyster shell on her made it pretty reflective. She had finished eating it but clearly had other plans before I picked her up ... She actually was very cooperative...
