Six new little baby Plymouth Barred Rocks. :love
Excuse me, we haven't had a photo in hours. I want to establish some minimum standards here. I think an absolute minimum is each baby gets a photo posted twice a day. Group shots count so no need for 12 photos a day, though that would be acceptable!

No. I’m not sure why but she always has since she was a chick. I have had her since she was two days old.

It seems to be worse under stress. For example, when she had fowl pox it seemed worse. And of course if she lands rough it is a bit worse for a day. But her feet are fine, no sores or bumbles or anything else.

She stands at a slight angle usually. I think she has a slight deformity maybe but I am not sure.
I've noticed that health problems can cascade too, the new problem making a chronic problem worse.

I've also noticed hens are very irritable when they're sick. Their behavior escalates noticeably beyond the usual pecking order scuffling. It's been so reliable among the hens at my house, mood is one of the health warnings I keep watch for.

So if she appears to be in her usual mood, that's a good sign.

How does one avoid pasty butt?
Heat Lamps are a major cause of Pasty Butt, so not using a heat lamp is the most effective way. The targeted heat from a heat lamp can dry the poo right to a chicks butt effectively closing the exit resulting in a life threatening backup. For this reason a heat plate is a better solution for chicks with a Mum being the best solution.

Another Taxi Carry Today

I opened the complex today for any hen that wanted to brave the evil pool cover and come to the deck. 2 of them braved the trip all the way to house.

In the video below, Hattie and Sansa were 1/2 way when Aurora flew all the way from the coop to where you see her when the video starts. She actually flew right over the other 2. Wings have not gotten this kind of usage here ever before. All of a sudden everyone is a real bird. 😆 🤣 😂

As the others found there way back Phyllis stayed and snacked. After she was done she went to head back. Now Phyllis normally goes down 1 step and jumps into the box next to the steps and head back being the deck box. She went to do the same today

Down one step

Turn left

Jump into the box and

SNOW!

She jumped right into the snow. After much flapping and squawking she had gotten back on the deck.

Now she was discombobulated. She started circling the deck complaining. Lucky for her, the human track was around. I came out, called her over, scooped her up and back to the coop she went.

My second visitor has no problem negotiating the pathways. Sydney made her way over late in the afternoon, enjoyed her snack, and made her way back, no muss, no fuss.

Wow, I did not know that! How does it happen?
Chick poo does not always completely clear the fluffy nether regions. A little gets stuck in their fuzz and the heat lamp bakes it hard and the build up starts until the bum is baked shut.
