Roosting mystery solved
I think I have figured out why Minnie and at least once, Dotty, roosted all alone.
Apologies in advance for the long videos.
It all starts with Dotty stuck on the end and Minnie not giving up her spot. Until she realizes what being next to Maggie means in practice and she escapes. Dotty is not content just to win the spot she was looking for, but feels the need to drive Minnie away entirely.

But Minnie returns

Now roles are reversed and Minnie drives Dotty off the roost.

Rinse and repeat. This happened multiple times like shuffling cards in a deck. Either Minnie or Dotty would drive the other off based on who was on the end.

And then for no reason ... ...

Awww... I love a happy ending!

Ummm... did everyone see that @Aussie-Chookmum ’s Alice won the molting contest??? Congratulations!!!

My Ester tied for third, too! 😁
Congratulations both! Frankly I am not surprised. I still shudder. I will try and be brave and look.

Awww... I love a happy ending!
I know. Me too. I was so happy they were united, but also upset at all the pecking. It is mainly the two road runners. Maggie fends them off but is more bark than bite. I hate that those two aren’t nicer to each other. During the day they are inseparable!

But where are all the little children of the corn? Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a tendency in the horror genre to have a corn field? It’s never a soy bean field, or a wheat field, or even a permaculture food forest... the bad stuff always happens in, near or comes out of a corn field? Maybe the anti GMO crowd has something there? What is so creepy about corn???
It rattles better than just about anything else...says she who does not ever, ever, ever watch horror.

ooooh - I am not going to read ahead because this is as close to knowing about breeds as I can get. They are Silver- and Gold-laced Wyandottes
I am so proud of you RC!!! :hugsWell done!

Is money an issue? We built our entire coop from marine ply. It's sturdy, weatherproof & doesn't require lots of cutting ~ especially if you work with the sheet dimensions. Just an idea...
Oooh... I need to look into this. DH, who is a general contractor, is venturing into chicken coops.

Natural talent...:p You're the one who said internet issues ~ but as we don't really know I'm hoping you're right. My mind goes to killer hawks, murder in the main house, covid meltdown, chicken mayhem. Internet is sooo dull by comparison but would be a relief!
I know. I’m slightly worried, but trying not to be.
