Me too. I have a half wine barrel that would make a very big and comfy nestbox. But only for eggs, not for chicks because they'd not be able to climb out.Perhaps a happy medium is to fill a long planter box with soil topped with straw and build the nest box cover over that?
The more I think about it, the more I like that idea.![]()
Likewise, I can never find the right words when I need them. In this case, your words helped me recall Shad's point so I knew what you meant.Right you are. Soil would have been a better word. All that time spent pondering it and I was inarticulate in my words. Thanks MJ
Because they're dark blue I can't see how dirty they really are, so I clean them thoroughly every day, by which I mean, empty, squirt visible dirt off, put a little water in, poke with the flexi brush and wipe with the dishcloth, tip the water out, fill, empty, fill, put back in the run. I figure that's probably enough to keep the water healthy and all the tipped out water goes on plants so it's not wasted. How often do you deep clean yours? I'm thinking about getting them for summer usage. They would be more attractive scattered around the yard. You just have to bring them into the house before it freezes or they will crumble.
Hey, there's a whole lot of nothin' out there! I once spent a couple of days on the train crossing the Nullarbor Plain. The nothingness was almost hypnotic. Why does it feel like sometimes the lot of you are starved for entertainment?
Thanks, Lozzy! When you read ahead, you’ll find I am taking care of this.Look after yourself lovely lady!![]()
Sydney would allow no "hop on mum" games. Ned tried twice that I saw and she was quite cross with him.A couple more pictures I took this morning while sitting out back having my coffee.
The chicks were playing hop on mom.

Have you ever seen a more "judging" group of youngsters? I swear they've already sized me up and found me lacking.

The integration between Bunny's 2 boys and the 3 pullets I held back was a complete success. The girls are Creamy, Remi and Pumpkin, the boys are not named.

And Daisy is still of the opinion that all the other hens are crazy and chicks are just not for her.

It was hard to tell under the lamp, but this one was actually gold.

Those sure are some unimpressed chicks.
I just have to point this out.......
