I just heard from the avian vet… Ester had advanced ovarian cancer.
Ugh. I asked UC Davis for the report. She was indeed obstructed in her digestive tract (from the cancer). She was also obese and had liver disease. I need to get the flock back on a diet and get them more exercise. C’mon days… get longer! And I don’t know how to get them out and about when they’re so fearful (rightfully so) of the hawk.

I’m sorry Michelle, they are too adept at hiding their issues when they are on the downslope :hugs
I think I need to cut out the sandwich crusts they get (wish the kid would eat them more often!) I think my 2 are getting a bit chubby and that’s the main scrap/treat they get. Too many carbs 🤔

Yes, I highly recommend cutting the crusts. It’s surprising how little can make them fat.

It's a very tricky situation :hugs

Oh, my! What a gorgeous 'cape' his hackles make..so striking!:love:love
Be still, my fluttering heart!💓💓
Thank you so much for that blast from the past. I miss that boy so much and he knew he was handsome. Yes I have 2 of his sons and many daughters, and while I see many of his qualities in all of them there will never be another Drummie. Basil looks the most like Drummie, so much so that I sometimes call him Drummie but he could care less about me. He absolutely does not like me handling him but I catch him once a week just to give him a general once over incase there ever does come a time I need to handle him daily. Rosie can catch and hold him whenever she wants, he loves her. I need to be able to handle him though incase of a emergency and she's not around. Bubba does like me, and lets me hold him whenever I want, but, he tolerates it. Drummie asked for and sometimes demanded his daily cuddles. The only boy I have left who actively seeks my attention like Drumstick did is Branch. It's one of the many reasons I love that little guy.

No need to worry now. There is 4 inches of snow covering the ground. The tribe would not leave the complex if the door was open. In fact they spent the whole day in the main coop.

I did not see any when I was digging out but I was not looking either. Hopefully they will go south now.
Yep got the snow now also, just checked temps here, it's -21C at 03:00hrs, likely be -25C by the time I get up. Well winter has arrived I guess, had to happen!

Poor chooks will be barn bound now, pooping on my hay, laying eggs where they shouldn't 😆
