I agree, it would call for an avian specialist.I will ask, but I imagine I would need an Avian vet for that. I don't have that - what I have is a 'general vet' who is game to try any species and has a small backyard flock herself.
I will ask her about it for sure, but in many ways she is learning alongside me if you see what I mean.
Could the black have just fallen off the outside? I don't see any missing points.Oh! I think the black tip fell off just now. She won’t keep still long enough for me to look really closely.

Mary's ear lobes look dry and white. I haven't done anything about it. It doesn't seem to bother her. Mark the vet never mentions it when she goes for her checkups.Yes. I was about to reply with the same. The risk is damaging fragile tissues that may still be able to survive and also opening up wounds that allow infection in. The black bit is acting like a natural dressing preventing any infection from entering.
But I think @Marie2020 may have been talking about the white crusty look of the rest of her comb. Not the parts that got frostbite. Honestly I don’t know about that. All my girls get that to some degree. Worse in winter. When I first saw it I thought it was a fungal infection. But it may just be dry skin (like my elbows).
I have wondered whether I should try coconut oil for it but I don’t want to do so while it is still going below freezing and also not on Dotty with frostbite.
I would be interested if other folk have experience of the white ‘dry skin’ look on combs.
Here is Minnie (left) who has it less badly. Maggie has it too. Diana less so.

Wow, now I feel bad for griping all day while working outside at my grandmothers. The past 5 days it was in the low 70s. Yesterday it was raining and humid and the horses with their winter coats were sweating just standing in their stalls. Today, 48 and supposed to be like this until the weekend when it hits mid 30s for a few days. At least I was not dealing with the evil S word.Last weekend, a bit breezy, but in the 50s (F) View attachment 3018194

False spring.
My gosh, it's going to be warmer here with temps in the 50s.Wow, now I feel bad for griping all day while working outside at my grandmothers. The past 5 days it was in the low 70s. I know. It is a puzzle. I think maybe there was a bit of living underneath the black that we couldn't see until the black fell off. I got a glimpse of that point and it is 'sharper' than it was before and has a tiny blister on the end.Could the black have just fallen off the outside? I don't see any missing points.
That would be a wonderful outcome.I know. It is a puzzle. I think maybe there was a bit of living underneath the black that we couldn't see until the black fell off. I got a glimpse of that point and it is 'sharper' than it was before and has a tiny blister on the end.
I need to get some good pictures so I can do a before-and-after comparison to be sure.
But I must say she isn't looking too shabby.
Oooooo...is it me, or is most of the tip still there? The 2nd tip is looking better, too.Oh! I think the black tip fell off just now. She won’t keep still long enough for me to look really closely.
