Can you/do you evaluate him in any way? Are you able to give constructive feedback about this to him or his boss???? You have important work and, from what I hear, it is tough getting enough employees in all healthcare sector atm. why would he want to do this? 1 rigorous thought question that involves more than one topic covered is okay; trick questions are not! Tell him a well trained, seasoned educator said so!
I hate to say this, but he must have a confidence issue (he may appear cocky as a disguise....) Usually confident, well adjusted individuals don't need to 'trick' others into doing poorly. Generally only those that really aren't self confident (whether they exude confidence it or not), or just plain 'mean' people, or power hungry people need to have the 'gottcha' moments that there isn't a call for.

Sorry, as a teacher, bullying, condescending, intimidating behavior really p**s me off. Counter productive, scarring, etc, etc. If you are there to train/teach, then TRAIN & TEACH!!!!
