This is kind of funny (not like ha ha funny, rather cool/odd, funny) My chickens, broody or not..though they DO poop during the night, the majority of my hens let loose a very large poop as soon as I let them out in the morning. I would say 2/3 size of a broody poop, but not as stinky. Most (not all!) night time poops under the roosts are much smaller. It's almost like they hold onto the 2nd half of the night's worth of poop to let it loose outside?? (It is much more true this time of year, a bit less so in the winter...?maybe because the nights are so long then?)
I have to amend my response… I had to hand scoop out 2/3 of a broody poop from Goldie that was partially plastered to the box wall and then clean up her behind with scissors. And a towel. It was a challenging afternoon.

Great, thanks to both you and @RoyalChick for your responses. I will check out the netting. It seems like it would be a great option for giving the girls more space. I still might just let them out in it when I am home, so I can keep an eye on things.
My big worry here are the raptors, I have a lovely redtail hawk and a sharpshinned hawk hanging around. Also a bald eagle is around the area.

Buttercup would be easy pickings as she is so light and stands out against the green grass!

I never used to worry about air predators until @Bob had his run in. The biggest worry I had till then was foxes!!! Which is why I got the poultry netting...

Who knew having chickens could be so much fun and so much worry 💖

Monday mugs 🤗

It's another frosty morning here, the grass is all white with frost

I have ordered a bunch of shrubs to plant in my fenced area so they can hide better.
I am also moving more of the garden chairs in for the same reason.
You are right - they really are a worry! And of course wonderful fun too.

I must say it warms my heart a little to see Aurora happily sharing and not bullying anyone. Has becoming the new queen mellowed her out?
She seems a little mellower. She is less of a chaser now. She still wants the most of the food but she is less pecky towards everyone else these days.

That's no fun. Yuck. :sick
