Fluffy Butt Friday

Finally able to put my feet up and check all my BYC friends online. Today at work I consoled a young lady who is a robotics programmer having issues with the ‘good ol boys club’, I caught her bawling her eyes out in the bathroom. I know well the project manager with whom she is having issue, only differences is I can tell him to you know what, after all I am pushing 60 and I worked in a man’s world a very long time, poor young lady less than a year! What are they gonna do ? Fire me? Likely not!

So we went and sat in the Big Blue Truck I gave her some advice on ‘look at your job as a stepping stone’ not where you will end up. We laughed over the fact I was missing a meeting with my HR mngr and a vendor (sweet!).

And then we went back inside because sitting in the Big Blue Truck when it’s 80F outside is very hot!!! All this got me thinking about how privileged I was growing up, I had a father who encouraged my sister and I to do everything and not to be limited by supposed gender based jobs! Imagine back in the 70s and early 80s one’s father telling his daughter learn all about computers they are they way of the future! Smart man my dad

So wonderful she had you there for support, despite all the harassment policies, equality in the workplace, and such forth there will still always be those days everywhere in every industry. Women in fields dominated by men especially. For me it was usually the abusive customers, picking on young or visible minority cashiers… sometimes we would get them banned from the store, but most often they just got away with it. People for the most part suck. And the second place to look after the bathroom for the person that just fled in tears from the floor of a grocery store is the dairy cooler… not sure why, but that’s where a good 70% of them hid.

Well, buddy told me ' oh it's very small you won't know it, it's called bay de verde'

'Hmmmm I said interesting'....

' whats your family name?'

He tells me.

Well by know I am both gobsmacked, laughing, astonished, and just plain intrigued.

'oh' I said 'well now do you know any so n so's from there?'

'yaes, by, me fadders fadder was a so n so'

I slowly blink, and ask his mother name...

Lorraine this-n-that....

Ok so by now I am beyond astonished and I tell him ' you have got to be pooping me!? No way!?'

' I knows yer Mudder!!! Yaes by, I do! My name is Kelly so n so and me Mudder is Lorraine this n that also!

Ok enough with the poor Newfoundland imitation talk.

Seems buddy's grandfather is from my father's family, and his mother grew up with my mother - her childhood friend. They both had the same name and caused some confusion growing up

So seems my cousin is here in town talk about a small world!

So yes Marie it's a very small world and who knows who you may be related to!!

Newfie’s and their Cousins! when there 13 siblings in the family and half of them have four kids a piece, and their spouse also had 10+siblings, with three or four kids each… eventually almost everyone is related somehow!

Yep I also told her as she got older she would learn how to deal with people who belittle. And might even learn to tell them off

From the tilt of her head I'd say she saw something that made her wary. The Buckeyes are afraid of snakes and have done this twice for one (a big one and a small one) and even for frogs but it's been really hard to find / see what they're calling about. When they were young they did it for anything that moved that they'd never seen before.

Cool the temper down, fans of the refrigeration system making noise, no people (including in store PA/music system). Only place better than the cooler is the ice cream freezer (no doors to the shelves, close the door and scream out the frustrations).
