Ummm @RebeccaBoyd , I don't think you will ever get that out of your BCM xBOs, you will forever have the black gene in there. (well, forever is an untruth, but it would take lots of generations and back-crossing to BOs)

I know, that is one reason why discovering these is torture. So far from the Butter x Drumstick and Butter x Bubba crosses I have gotten Squirrel who is gorgeous and her color still shocks me.

Then we had my little Dalmatian wanna-be Cricket who had the feathered feet. Again, let us all curse that dog. I'm still proud of myself for not shooting her like I wanted too. It was not her fault her owner is a idiot. But I will forever now hate her and curse her.

There was Creamy, who was pale yellow in the front and white in the back, she did not get the marans feathered legs though.

Finally we have Kit and Kat who I think are going to end up looking similar to big sister Squirrel.

Such variation with this cross with the one constant being a BCM rooster leads me to wonder if Butter is a pure Buff orp. My cousin gave me the eggs from which she hatched out from and said she should be. At the time 90% of his flock was Buff orps, including his rooster. The few oddball hens he had were a few bantams. I just cannot see Butter being a bantam cross with her size. Out of curiosity with no plans to keep right now I want to see what the 3 new buff girls will produce with Bubba.

Oh cute story I forgot to tell you while I was visiting my chicks in the brooder tent. So one little chick decided she was gonna walk up to me and start staring at my boobs, which are a decent size (not to brag for story only). So I'm looking at her and her lil head and neck and eyes are going. Then "plop" right in the boobs and cleavage she went. I was like "wth" are you doing! Those aren't your pillows!These chicks have such a personality.

My suggestion is to get a Wheaten or Birchen Marans, and go from there...they've gotten you half way there already!!

Of course, my genetics knowledge is from HS bio XY * XX yeilds 50% XY, 50% XX, etc. and nothing is really that simple. I've learned recently from reading articles that there are actually multiple other genes that, when turned on or off, affect sex... in humans, and color genes are even more complicated than that, so..

You are right, White Tail Buffs are not according to the French standard true Marans. I think the French only recognize 3 or 4 color varieties and seeing as how they were developed in France one should refer to their standard. That being said, I do not want them for show, they are a new developing variety. Sadly not yet available only to a few in Australia. But, new color varieties and breeds are being developed everywhere, and one day years from now they could be recognized. More importantly, to me anyway, they look like what would be the ideal cross between my BCM boys and Butter or my other Buff orp girls. Which you may not know, I've been tinkering with and want for 2 years now. So while yes, not true Marans, it is a color variety that very much interests me and one I want very badly.

So all my Aussie friends, besides drop bears, does everything really want to kill you in the land down under?

Nah, it's waaaaay safer than you're used to.

Squirrel has colouring similar to a Welsummer (I like my Welsummer girls), but she looks kind of lean considering she is a BO X BCM !!!

Oh, my, I think I could fall in love with a flock of Creamys!!! I have always loved the 'matronly' look of full bodied girls. While heritage BRs are a bit taller and don't quite have that 'roundness' look of a true BO, I love the look of my heritage BRs (larger frame and looser/fluffier feathering), which is why I paid more $ to get some and hope to breed them to replace my others over time (other BRs, that is. I don't know that I would ever want just ONE breed - they all have such different personalities and colours.....I like diversity!)
