I'm so glad they liked it.:hmm

Have you tried the strung fruit yet? I usually do popcorn (popped) and cranberries, but had to improvise this year as there were no cranberries to be found! And, the popcorn broke many of the times...so I decided to give up on that this year.🤷‍♀️
Not yet - it is in the freezer - will try that next though I am making coleslaw so they will get cabbage first.

Some more mugs and other pictures I got. Momma hens littles are 2 weeks and 2 days old now.

Goose has fully integrated herself into this group of girls. They no longer keep her on the edges of that group which also leads me to think she is laying now and is accepted by them.

You got some great pictures - really lovely!

Time to laugh at the newbie.

Egg songs this morning from several pullets but it was to cold to wait it outside and see who laid.

Well, I just went back outside to see if any were laid or if it was all talk. Now , not one egg has been laid in a nest box, nope not uh, they lay them in the corners under the roost bars away from the poop, thank goodness, but still I have to crawl under them to get to the eggs so much fun!

Anyway, I check the first corner throughly nothing, turn to look in the even harder to get to corner and what do i see????

Powder, hunkered down in a pancake pose! I crawled over to her and dug under her and gently pushed her to the side. She was sitting on two eggs her first, it’s brown and a green egg I believe is Biscottis second egg.

So, this girl lays her very first egg and decides she wants to hatch it. I told no, no, no your eggs aren't ready to be hatched yet they are too little and she looked back at me grabbed some hay and tossed it on her back and started remaking the nest I had messed up. I don't think she agrees with me at all!

Really??? Tell me she cant be serious!
I hate to inform you but she can. Holly my last original Marans girl started laying at 5 1/2 months. 2 weeks later she went broody and hatched out her first of several groups of chicks. Marans are known to be broody. The majority of your flock has I think Marans somewhere in their lineage. I fear several if not all of your girls will one day test your patience with the broody nonsense. Good luck breaking them. Some of mine I can, others well......I did not get up to 38 without some help.

I would recommend the Brahmas. They are made for our cold climate, but do surprisingly well with the heat as well. I have one, a Buff Brahma. She was starting her moult in this photo. She is very sensible about her moult and gets it all taken care of before it gets cold!

She is very pretty ❤️ I really like that colouring. What colour egg does she lay?

I am really liking them with their feathered feet (remind me of Ptarmigan haha!).

The heat would be the one thing that I worry about - it gets very hot and steamy here in the summer. Last summer I was tempted to get one of those portable AC units for the Hen House they were all just sweltering - I have the large fan just blasting air in their roost - I was afraid it would blow the poor Silkies off their roost hahahahahaha!

I am seriously looking at one of the units, and think rather than my getting StarLink - I will get my guys an AC unit instead.

Awwww! they are so adorable - I love Momma hen - she is a trooper!

Why? Just why?
It is nasty out - a mix of sleet and snow.
The Princesses are all in the blind spot area which is open to the elements. They have a whole Chicken Palace which is nice and dry with food and water but they prefer to hang out in the pasture run and get snowed on.
Why?
Crazy chickens! They are all together peacefully again, but they are definitely getting wet.
They're testing each other's mettle....and yours....

My dark Brahmas lay lightish brown eggs....bordering on pink....

:hugs :hugs Wow that’s pretty traumatic. And goodness, was there a medical reason for no anti-nausea drugs with the opiates? Even after getting sick like that? Well, if you’ve never had opiates for pain relief nor had anesthesia now you know to ask for nausea meds if you can get them. I recall coming out of surgery with intense fiery pain and then feeling sick with the opiates but it was relieved with something, sounds like Finnegan.
EDIT Ok it’s called phenergan.
Oh they gave me medicine for the nausea. I got Zofran right before the anesthetic, and then they gave me more when I woke up and started vomiting. This is the first time I have ever gotten sick like that from anesthesia, and I have been under many times. I have also had Hydrocodone many times over the years, but not sure I have ever had Fentanyl or Morphine. I think it was the combination of the medications and the pain that caused me so much trouble.

I am very uncomfortable but tolerating things reasonably well today. My doctor told me they frequently wait a few days before doing surgery on this type of break to let the initial swelling go down, plus so they can take me off my blood thinners the day before. :barnie :th

Ouch tax
