My neighbor has a mixed flock, and they seem to do just fine....she had one male who was a problem (and was sold), but otherwise they are okay. However, she raised them with some baby chicks (2 different incubators going, the keats were about 1 week older than the chicks.). They don't free range ( we have had far too many losses from foxes and such...and they don't stay close), but she has a HUGE run with multiple coops. They seem to mostly roost in their own coop ( free choice who goes where), but she has a trio that roost with the chickens.I just don't let them out together. Even our dominant roosters are weirded out by the Guineas so the Guineas get limited time outside. They are in their tractor now so I move them to fresh grass every few days.
I believe that the white male Guinea may be the aggressor. They've had a female now for 2 weeks. I may turn them out later this evening but we have a bunch of chicks free ranging now. Hope that by adding a lady they cool their jets but we'll see.My neighbor has a mixed flock, and they seem to do just fine....she had one male who was a problem (and was sold), but otherwise they are okay. All good here! Except the weather, rain rain rain! Have a few chicks here, and I just put 4 more under my 2 broodies.Hey PP!Hope you and everyone are doing well.
She’ll have to settle for a great Italian dinner. Just west of DenverI’ll bet that friend is broody too!![]()
Aww, chickies! All good here! Except the weather, rain rain rain! Have a few chicks here, and I just put 4 more under my 2 broodies.
That’s wonderful!Chick update. As of 3 hours ago Momma Hen had one out. She very closely came to pecking my eye while I was trying to check so I will leave the grouch alone the rest of the night. Holly, I will say she is going to be completely done by midnight. 3 out already. I checked her about 30 minutes ago and she has 3 eggs left. 1 was almost fully zipped so it is probably out by now. The other 2 have good size pips. Color wise Momma Hen's first one is black and brown. Holly has 1 blue, 1 black and brown and one solid black. The black one came from a egg from one of the Cinnamon Queens. I did not set these eggs, and I have not told mom yet but, jet black, black skin and double toes. Definitely a Branch or Twig chick.
So sorry RC. Any updates?I have a sad situation with Eli.
She lost her balance and fell off the roost in the night. This morning she is clearly having trouble walking.
I don't think she is egg bound this time.
As you can imagine I am devastated. I will swab for Marek's, it has to be considered a possibility.

To conclude and by the way, I am thrilled to see that cocorico has become FBA's trademark expression, but I would like to remind all your roos that it is a noun, and not a verb. Le coq fait cocorico !
