They got all the way over to the doorway, looked out and turned around.

My 2 cheeky littles and the Brahma X.

20230603_085129.jpg
Zulu and the other 2. I got to thinking. This chippy (back left) is marked the same as the other minus the feathered feet. My brahmas are silver penciled and my roos (except Hector) are/were all gold based. The facial markings on both the Brahma mix and the other one look much like Cheetah's were (different type of penciling). I'm thinking they may be gold penciled (like Pear but lighter). Then I started really thinking. The clean legged one has YELLOW legs. So did Horus and so does Pear (Plymouth Rock). That little one has a straight comb, so possibly Pear offspring.... rather than missing the feathered feet off the Brahma...

The little yellow has me completely stumped. I was assured it's from my eggs (the big yellow was one of 2 yellow with cheek puffs, 1 of which from their eggs, 1 from mine, so Pippa/Maizie). The only yellow chicks I've EVER had have been Blanche and PITA. They're splash though, and without at least a blue roo (haven't had), will 100% produce blue babies (Lark and Indigo). Not a trace of cheeks on it so....? Pretty positive Zulu is a golden wyandotte x (Jessica, but not from Hector) (has the right face and mostly right back marks). The other dark chippy has cheeks and a straight comb. I suspect is Whiskey's by either Pippa or Maizie (face much like Whiskey's but cheeks from mom).

Playing the mystery genetics puzzle again.....

The little black chick is lucky. 3 years ago it may not have made it. When I last checked at midnight it had a good pip, overnight during shuffling the egg got slightly crushed and the membrane and shrink wrapped. 3 years ago I would have taken forever getting that chick out and the stress would many times have been to much for the chick. Now, I see this problem and I have learned for the best chance at survival get it out quick. I took it from Raven, removed the top half of the broken shell and dampened the membrane and removed it. I uncurled it's head and left the bottom half in the shell incase it was still absorbing some of the yolk sac. Checked a hour later and it is fully out and halfway dried off. Experience with difficult hatches and all the resources on this forum played in it's favor today.

This is the most I've ever seen occupied at the same time.

Nox is up on the roosts pacing and complaining that her spot is occupied by someone higher so she can't oust her. Belladonna is contemplating the spot she used yesterday, ground corner. Silver is playing Auntie and sending babies back into their space if she thinks they're out too long.

I just wanted to share these pics- the baby chicks are one we hatched in an incubator (I think it was last yr in March or April.) ( Checked and it was June 3rd last yr when we gave them away) We wanted to learn to use the Manna Pro incubator we bought and got eggs from our hatchery in town. We got RIR and Barred Rock eggs- we gave the chicks away as we already had enough Leghorns that our city code allows. They shared the pic of the grown up chickens 😊

As of this morning all 5 leghorns are laying. I had 2 out of the 5 lay yesterday. One of the poor girls must not have known she needed to lay a egg. She came walking around the house to the back yard and just stopped, squatted and out popped a egg to her and my surprise. It was not her fault as everyone was fighting over nest boxes with all of them occupied. I will have to watch though for a bit and check the yard daily until I am sure she figures out to lay in a nest box.

Here is the synopsis of the chicken news at Fluffy Butt Acres for the past week - May 27th to June 3rd.

This is the week that took FBA past 150,000 posts - keep the chatter chicken focused everyone!

Hattie's corner
Because she is such a pretty hen @BY Bob's Hattie got her portrait taken by our local chicken artist @LhickenChicken: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26887826

And in disquieting news, @LhickenChicken has introduced another Aurora to our FBA lives. She is very cute, but I hate to think what will happen in a world with the power of Auora X2! Be afraid, be very afraid: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26887842

@BY Bob
Shared some big news about crowing at FBA: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26885117

@knoturavggrl
With no regard for her personal safety @knoturavggrl brought us front line reporting from the war against the rats. We are not sure who will win, but we are grateful to have such a committed war correspondent: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26886054

As well as dealing with the rats, @knoturavggrl has been taking a crash course in chick raising from Brownie who is still not quite a year old but nonetheless has distinct views on child rearing and is imposing her will on her anxious chicken tender. So far, Brownie seems to know exactly what to do! https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26888906

@Ponypoor
In one of the funniest videos, Pony provided her chicks with a ready-made ladder and then complained that they climbed it! :lau
I dunno :idunnojudge for yourselves: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26882586

Pony also treated us to some wonderful songs with new chicken-lyrics (is that chyrics?):

In a classic case of enabler direct action we have managed to convince Pony to keep little Rico. Here is proof in writing, so no changing your mind now Pony!! https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26882260

Poor BBQ is going through a tough time at the moment with a bad case of bumblefoot and a poopy backside: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26880081
I am sure we are all hoping for a speedy recovery for BBQ.

@ValarieF
Has been renaming some of her littles after major weather events. Read about it here, but the thing to know is that Clyde (now Tornado) is over his strange wry-neck-like symptoms and doing well: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26878769

@Marie2020
Came on to share the big news that Princess laid an egg (and a very fine looking egg too!): https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26880852
And in another post that set me off giggling, Marie got a call from her neighbors: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26892995

@Lexicon

Put to bed any dispute about who has the biggest wattles by sharing his picture of Cholo the Great: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26885115

@featherhead007
Alex has a problem with roaming chickens. His Hen-Rietta has taken to roaming to visit other roosters in the neighborhood and Alex is quite worried for her reputation.
He also has incoming chickens from next door - originally mother and babies, but now just babies as the neighbor has locked the mother in a cage :he

@fuentemoon
Also has wandering chickens but it seems much nicer neighbors.
I love this story: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26898801

@notabitail treated us to a fabulous picture of Abigail for Monday - you can learn a lot of chicken anatomy from that one mugshot: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26884913

@ManueB
Gave us an update of her lovely flock - I always find pictures of her scenery and chickens very dreamy - but the addition of babies into that stunning environment is just too much lovely for one place. Sit down, relax, and enjoy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26893050

@RoyalChick
Shared an update on Eli who seems to have got over her neurological and balance issues, is no longer broody, and has adopted the Pentagonists as her very own (rather overgrown) chicks. RC is absurdly intrigued by the whole event and has been taking way too many photos: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26888027

Hope I didn't miss too much or mess up the links - it has been a bit of a hectic week and I am more than a little sleep deprived.
