Georgie Girl will not stop being broody, she has been at it now for 6 weeks, I have been dragging her off the nest a couple times a day to eat and drink, she runs around for about half an hour with the gang in the morning then heads back to her nest box….

...and Middle is back to work! First egg since everyone went on hiatus.

The last egg was from Button on December 7, 3 weeks ago. It'll be awhile before she is ready to lay again; she is finally growing some new feathers.

While I was in the coop doing scoopy duty, Little was looking at the nest box, acting like, "I know there's something I need to do there... what is it?" Her comb and wattles are red too.

2 lemon pound cakes with lemon drizzle and Lemon icing done. A 3rd smaller one is already half gone and they are delicious. We have a gallon bag of zest in the freezer. A gallon of fresh lemonade is in the fridge. Within the next 20 minutes a cheesecake is going in the oven and we will get started on the lemon curd.

So many breeds. So little barn space…

Oooooo...Brabanters are very rare indeed & they have Bantam varieties too. They have 13 varieties in Germany & something like 8 SOP varieties in Belgium ~ known for being cold hardy.

As w/most moderate layers or broodies rare birds almost go extinct in our USA! I always tried to order rare breeds here to keep them from going extinct but unfortunately my beloved Breda Fowl just didn't have enough customer interest. People want the exhausted egg breeds or hybrid layers rather than broodies or moderate layers. However, the rare breeds seem to be the most "eye candy" in the chicken world.

That's why I order the moderate layer Dominiques over Barred Rocks to keep Doms from going threatened or extinct plus I like the smaller rose combs rather than larger straight combs that get more tattered looking in old age.
