Official Squatch Watchers

Good morning everyone. Hope you all have had a wonderful day so far.

I have one chick that I'm afraid I will have to cull. He was the last to hatch and was 48 hours late and at that I still had to help him. He has an issue with his legs and can not support himself. He will kinda flop around and get food and water but he is showing no improvement on gaining the ability to walk.
It bothers me to kill a baby anything though. If it was full grown I'd have no issue harvesting it lol. He may have a spinal issue.
We have foxes and all kinds of predators so I may just take him out to the edge of the woods and set him out at night. Something will take him before long when it starts calling out.

Other then that all I have on my mind is pressure washing the porch. The chickens live to use it as their own personal restroom lol

Sad. It is very difficult. I would be reluctant to train the local predators to eat chicks. Big pair of shears, very fast. :(

Or helium, it is better for those of us that can't handle the hands on approach like myself.

I wouldn't cull yet, line a teacup sized glass with a paper towel and put the chick in that for 12-36 hours to see if that helps. If it doesn't ever really straighten out and you need to cull, I wrote an article on culling for squeamish folks.

How to Cull a Chick with Kitchen Sheers (Scissors) for Squeamish People *slightly graphic*

Culling at any time in their life is never a good day. I’m afraid it may be the fate for Whoopsie. She is definitely crooked all down her right. I noticed her beak isn’t fully formed on that side too. I thought it was dirty with nutri drench but it is actually missing the very outside layer of beak.
She seems happy and mostly healthy. I’m going to keep trying. There has been enough death here lately.
