Hmmmm Maybe you could build more of a platform for it. It seems like it would work better than the ramp/ raised bucket thing b/c they're already down on the floor.. Reminds me of the lion traps from old movies. I'm thinking the can makes a difference though.. like they go up to it b/c they think there's something more there.
You mean pit traps?

in the comments they said the scent of the powdered milk can attracted them.. or it looked like a chicken feeder

Guaranteed if I win that lotto I am outta here!
It is to dang dry here to grow a decent garden.
Then there is the clay.

Not to mention the aggressive dogs next door are back!

This is obviously not from this year. :p
Still pretty though.

I think you can get clay many places. We have it too, i just add sand and manure. I will improve it.

It's the same here... so much for 'farming country'... My parent's current and previous yards have a good amount of clay. My dad dug a hole for a raspberry plant.. it filled up w water & never drained. Some spots are better, but right now it's all mud.

I've thought about making one of those bucket traps but, would probably feel terrible for tricking mice. I'm pit bull on the outside but, Cocker Spaniel on the inside.
I'd be more worried about catching a bun, chippy, or squirrel right now. I still never found my big rat trap. I probably caught a bun w/ it & I feel terrible. I don't think a squirrel or chippy would be big enough to take off with it. I'm going to try the baking soda and corn meal thing once the weather stops being winter so much.
