O
Here is the basket, took the picture just now. The one marked 1 is the first egg. Not as different as they look in my hand up close (I've given some away). I'm not trying to be argumentative I promise and I know yall have more experience collectively but I live with these girls day to day...
my columbian rock laid this strange egg the other day. she's only been laying for about 10 days. she was laying every other day and then skipped a day, laid this egg and then the next day laid a normal egg. the shell was quite thin and very soft on the top. when we broke it open, there was a...
We got another first egg. either yesterday or today. it was in the back corner of the hen house and had no shell. so 3/4 laying so far and they are 19 weeks now.
i made our nest box out of a tupperware bucket. i got the instructions off youtube from becky's homestead and my hens love it. i use wood shavings. there was only one "accidental" egg dropped in the run when Charlotte came out to eat and drink after having been in it for most of the day. it was...
the two of my hens that just started have been alternating days. Bird (CR) was day 1 and 3 and Charlotte (RIR) was day 2 and we are pretty sure she gave us two today on day 4. both my other hens have started squatting and checking out the nest box. they are all 18 1/2 weeks old now.
i have a run and coop for my 4 hens. i started off just letting them out a few times a day, but they started to get really annoyingly loud so now i let them out in the morning and put them to bed at night. they have a fenced yard so i'm not too concerned with predators, but they are doing a...
Another 1st egg today! This one was from our RIR, Charlotte. I saw her lay it in the run so that solves the mystery of who's egg was laid yesterday. The larger lighter egg is from our Columbian Rock, Bird.

We got our first egg! I don't know which bird it came from, but it's a good size. The white egg is a store egg for comparison.
Lol, I was so excited I forgot to mention that my chickens are 18 weeks old. We have 3 columbian rock and 1 RIR. two of the CR are still a few weeks away from laying.
two of my girls are close!! heard the egg song for the first time today and then scared one of them out of the nest box when i opened it to check for eggs. they also have fluffier bottoms than the other two girls. lol. the RIR is really getting into the submissive squatting. it's been stinking...
its possible that she is a chimera. that is when two non identical embryos fuse together and the result is an offspring with two different distinct sets of dna or markings. they can even be a mix of male and female.

what happened with your chickens? were you able to find a way to keep them? i have heard of a few different ways to get around the bylaw. they are illegal where i live as well and i recently became a lawbreaker. as far as i know, if your chickens sleep inside at night and are fenced during the...
i think they will start laying soon! the top pictures are of charlotte (rhode island red) and bird (columbian rock) at 11 weeks and the bottom at 15 weeks. someone is also making a nest in the nest box. i'm thinking it was bird because there was a white feather in there. bird is also very chatty...
the top pictures are of Charlotte our RIR and Bird one of three Columbian Rocks at 11 weeks old. The bottom picture is of them at 15 weeks. I think Bird was making a nest in the nest box because I found one of her feathers in there, she is also very chatty all the time! They are about 16 weeks...
