Kelly doesn’t pay attention. I’m having ham sandwiches for a few days now. I opened my best wine collection for them too. I don’t drink anyways, the Cella Lambrusco 82, went over quite well. But they stayed too late for my comfort. Oh well!!
Make pea soup! You said you got one with shank in so they would make a good pea soup ❤️❤️❤️

My grandmother would have had soup made the next day 💕

I know what you mean by staying late, but they must have been enjoying themselves if they stayed late 😊

I’m a damn good cook, and I have plans for that ham bone the next couple of days. Including split pea and ham soup!

At the moment, it’s time with the chooks ! 01631014-DA95-407C-A06E-D1656575BF2D.jpeg

Nope, I put a stop to the house laying and she resorted back to the porch. So she will set on the porch this time around. I know what mom is thinking in letting her hatch. Really it is grandma who wants her to hatch again. Her health is declining steadily, she does not know it, but some of the tests they are doing is looking for cancer. She has been in congestive heart failure now for 15 years, that is also worsening at a rapid speed since the stroke. Yes, she still can drive us crazy half the time. The chickens seem to be one of the few things anymore that make her truly happy, especially the mommas and babies. I think it is terrible timing for me to have a hen hatch. I do not know or honestly think that she will be able to see them hatch next year. I pray that I'm wrong, but this steady decline is alarming.
I'm so sorry to hear all of this.:hugs:hugs:hugs Bless you for being there for your grandma, and I can tell that while you don't really want another broody to hatch, it is clear you are going to let Bunny for your grandma. What a wonderful gift you are giving her by allowing her to see more chicks hatch - what a very loving sacrifice you are making for your grandma!:love

Well the deed is done and 14 eggs are set. I was going to give them all to Bunny and then take Raven and put her on the roost. I had given Bunny 4 eggs, and each time I was putting one under her Raven stretched her neck out and tried to get the egg. Yes I caved, Raven has 7 and Bunny has 7. I was going to have to block off one of the porch boxes for Bunny anyway and it will be easier to just go ahead and block both from the laying girls. Raven proved herself to be a good mother this spring when she adopted the chick that Baby rejected after only sitting for a week. The question will be is if she will sit the entire 3 weeks. I guess now is as good of a time as any to find out. I hope I did not ruin her by letting her raise that chick before sitting for 3 weeks. Seeing as how they were set at the same time, if Raven does break herself I can give Bunny any developing eggs. I am too soft when it comes to these girls, I really should have put Raven on the roost. It was the look and soft clucks that did me in when she was reaching for the eggs. I also thought I had snuck out to set the eggs without being noticed. When I turned around to come back inside grandma was watching me out the window and had saw what I had done. She approved.
