Bad news in my neck of the woods now too.

Look what I found next to a healthy poop this morning

The biggest one is about the size of my thumb.

I cut it open. Yes...it's a lash egg 😢.

Thumb for scale. I suspect Tsuki or Deana. (Sorry BY Bob)

Oh dear. I am sorry. Maggie delivered two of these - that was now just over 2 weeks ago. She hasn't laid anything since, and so far is acting normally (well she is molting so not looking her best). Two weeks ago the vet offered to euthanize her and said the outcome is rarely good (including with surgery). But I thought I would wait until she is acting poorly before taking the vet up on his offer. So far she is still enjoying her chicken-ey life. Hey, it is only 2 weeks, but it has been a happy 2 weeks.

Yes, but Hoppy’s leg was not a total break, and she could still move her toes. I’m thinking I may need to rig another stronger one for Roostie, his Bumblefoot is not going well.
I'm sorry to hear that about Roostie. I was hoping he was doing better. :hugs :hugs

And thank you for tagging me @BY Bob i wish I had gotten online yesterday to help support our Friends better.
I know how things are for you. I took a shot that you might be online. Please don't feel you have to check every day. As much as we love seeing posts from you, you should not feel obligated to check in and see if we need help.

Best with everything. :hugs

I’m so sorry you and @Aussie-Chookmum are both going through this too. Lash eggs are nasty business. I’m fairly certain that was what took Croppy as well. Tippie lasted about 6 months after she laid one as well. Croppy was almost 3 years old. That’s seems to be the way all the Production red hens I have go. But yes, by all means give them as much time as you can while they are still somewhat comfortable. And I’m glad you have a vet available to make the end as quick and painless as possible. I’m really wishing I had access to a vet, or could convince one to at least prescribe me some antibiotics...

He has had some ups and downs, yesterday he was doing much better, today less so. I just moved the hospital tractor and temporary fencing to fresh ground, as we have had some awful weather the last few days and I want to keep him in the cleanest spot I can. He couldn’t walk to keep up with the flock and just looked sad. Yesterday we changed his dressing, flushed the area, and applied more antibiotic ointment, there was a little pus but most of the heat had left his foot. I was going to give him a good foot soak today but have had second thoughts watching him try to walk and because it is getting a little later on in the day. Moving the fencing was a little more intensive than I had hoped. I’m just having a quick lunch and boiling some water to maybe do it.

He's lying. :p:lau
Well, he still loves Abby and Alice, and when Louie Louie was still with the flock he took a good share of their feathers out. I had to put a saddle on Alice, and it's really strange to see little Abby's neck feathers gone on one side. All this, and Queen Bee's injury, is why Louie Louie is in his own coop and run, by himself, until he gets a little older and calmer.

Alice, Abby and Mad Hatter are my 3 lavenders, so they hang together all the time, and Pippi allows it. But, God forbid Mad should get close to one of Pippi's other girls.

I do have a couple very young Lavender's growing up now and wonder if they will join Mad's flock. They have just come out for the first time today to hang with everyone. There is a small door for them to escape back through that the bigs can't get through, but so far so good. They are wandering around like a little flock of their own. Two of them are cockerels. The cockerel challenges never end.

it never gets easier @featherhead007 But luckily, having to help, it is not something that comes up often. I lost Croppy on Saturday, but I let her go with her flock. Sammy is still quite upset that she is gone. Once these rescues are gone I am done with the really high production breeds, it is too heartbreaking to me. She was looking down the last several days and hadn’t laid an egg all year. She was still eating and roosting with the flock, I thought it kinder to let her pass on with them, but had decided that if she didn’t I would help her out in the morning.
I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs :hugs
