I have the 17% that came with the corn pads. Or more correctly the corn pads came with it... are you thinking I could use it on that red spot where the skin is already very soft and inflamed?View attachment 2453529
I should really drag my foot drama over to my own thread...
Yes that is exactly what I was thinking - it is where I would apply the Icthamol or other drawing ointment.

Little Red is showing his new lady friends how to Bathe (they are getting less stinky! Feet look clean, relatively) but I’m still going to be trimming up some of those nasty bum feathers!) You may have missed this @Shadrach but I took on another 8 rescues that came coated in the chicken version of Raw Sewage... I was literally gagging. I don’t want to bathe them as it’s still not warm here. This is their first day free ranging on the farm, they have been here for 3 days.View attachment 2453516View attachment 2453517
And ten stray sheep, they are stealing my chicken feed and knocked over our BBQ and propane tanks. Generally trashing what little the cows didn’t and being pests. One was chasing my chickens!
Those buggers! Nasty old sheep!

Run Phyllis, Run!

Phyllis roosted in the run tonight.

I actually do not know if someone else was to blame or if she chose to roost out there. I know that Maleficent chose to roost out there sometimes. I was watching roosting tonight and no one was chasing anyone. It was only after everyone else had roosted and I had turned the camera off that I realized I had not seen Phyllis.

So out I went. I gathered her up and since her craw felt empty, I brought her in for a snack.

Mealworms

Purple corn (her head feathers make quite a racket when she sewing machines food down 🤣)

And then out onto the roost with Hattie.

She handled being carried quite well. I think she may be getting used to it.

Rewarding

When I designed and built the coop I built it to accommodate snow storms like we have just had. Since I built it we have not had a storm such as this. It is very pleasing to see it working as intended. In addition to hanging out in the coop, they have been making great use of the porch. Phyllis especially so.

I am very pleased. 😊 (If I do say so myself 😉)
Yup, we finally got a generator *after* a lengthy power outage, and then didn't use it for 4-5 years! It was satisfying to finally see it in action (and not just for a maintenance run).

I do have a small chicken first aid kit I’ve built up, as well as a more thorough human one. Sadly it is very hard to get vet care here for chickens and most things aren’t available without a prescription. I have triple antibiotic ointment, bandages, vet wrap, saline wound wash, baby aspirin, antihistamine tablets, enrofloxacin (at the end of its shelf life though) and powdered calcium supplements on hand, as well as monistat cream and a laxative for crop issues. @CrazyChookChookLady , I am out of iodine and haven’t been able to source more, or betadine. I have rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Epsom salts, and coconut oil as well. Vaseline, preparation H, and personal lubricant for eggbinding and prolapses. I have a small amount of mite and lice destroying powder (that may/will cause cancer and is no longer available at all in Canada) and I might be able to “liberate” some ivermectin from the farm if they still have any.

It’s antibiotics and other “medications” that are very hard to source. I did manage to get my cat’s vet to prescribe me some amprolium for my “pet birds” but he could only order it by the gallon, so I am totally set if I ever run into coccidiosis again. I would like to add a wormer, but good luck getting my hands on any.

You need a script for amprolium? I just get it in powder form at the fodder shop here. In fact, I gave my girls a preventative dose this morning given that it’s so humid.
