Nice to be thought about; thank you. That’s good to hear, Shad. I’ve been thinking about you recently, wondering how all that nonsense was going.
That's good news Bob. It's what I'm waiting for from Fudge atm.Hattie did the Job!
Success! Hattie must be OK inside. My lovely lady laid a beautiful egg this afternoon. She was active and chatty afterwards. What a relief.

I'll be posting a link on my lamps thread in the not to distant future. You've all seen most bar the most recent work on the thread.Seconded! I'm very interested in your woodworking Shad. Could you link your blog too please?
Oh I am sorry to hear that.Young Mag is sick.I don't think he knows he's sick thankfully. His behaviour is normal but his comb and wattles tell a different story.
Instead of being red, or even pink his comb and wattles are purpleish and that is not a good sign. The usual cause is heart problems or poisoning; leads, nitrates, other toxic chemicals. I think it's probably his heart because unlike with poisoning where the comb and wattles stay much the same colour purple until they die or recover, Mag's comb changes shades at different times of the day. In the mornings when he's been resting he comes out of the coop looking pale but more pink. By the time evening comes and he's been active his comb looks bad.
There isn't anything I can do for him which is upsetting.

I don't really Kris. A couple of the ex fighting game fowl keepers I know suspect that one of the valves in one of the heart chambers (a chicken has 4 chambers) fails, probably when fighting and this places futher strain on the heart. Mag is highly active and fairly aggressive. It's possible he's popped a valve. This seems reasonable but to my knowledge there is no proof of this.So sorry you’re both going through this.
It is the internal things which I can’t fix that bother me the most. With my habit of taking in production breed hen rescues, either from the farm coop here or from other folks on the island, it is usually a reproductive issue. Mr Eyebrows showed a similar issue shortly before he passed, but he was attacked and viciously tail plucked by his girls before the comb purpling. He looked mostly recovered when I returned him to his flock, and two or three days later he passed during the night.
Do you have thoughts on why Chickens, or more specifically Roosters are so prone to heart issues?![]()
