I do remember but will go back and re-read.
The question I am weighing up is whether to build more nest box capacity somehow, or whether this will be an issue regardless of how many boxes there are to choose from.

I find it amazing that Lilly picked Sansa to be her new best friend after Patsy passed. I would have assumed she would have chosen either Hattie or Aurora rather then a new comer to the flock. Who knows, maybe Sansa is in training from the flock leader to one day fill that position when it opens up.

After Patsy died it was quite a while until Sansa joined the tribe. During that time Hattie and Lilly were tight. The switch did not occur when Sansa first arrived. Once Sansa started laying it seemed Lilly noticed her.

I was very surprised at first and Hattie was miffed. Lilly used to call for Hattie when she found good food so they could share it. She did this by making the tid bitting sound that a rooster makes or a mother hen makes to her chicks. Hattie was surprised when Lilly started making the tid bitting sound and blocked Hattie from the food waiting for Sansa and sharing it with her. Hattie has not really had a good friend since then.

As far as Lilly and Sansa once you think about it, it makes sense. They are similar sized hens with very similar personalities. From a personality standpoint they are very compatible. I believe that Lilly sees Sansa as a younger version of her in a lot of ways.

I wouldn't make more - I have 15 hens and have 6 boxes, they all use the top 2, so in my new coop, I am going to make all of the nesting boxes the same level, I worry one is going to get hurt if they fall/get pushed out

Too dark out now. I’m hoping she wanted to nest somewhere else, but I worry. Maybe I will see her in the morning

I'm not surprised...I think Lilly and Sansa have very similar personalities. Hattie is too laid back...even if she is sentinal. And Aurora...hmmmm, I think she needs a bit of grooming to mature into Lilly. Just my humble opinion. I've been know to be wrong many times...
