Yes what a fast hopper! That's pretty nice. Does she usually prefer not to fly? That looked like one of the chickens that's supposed to be a great flyer? This made me smile.
Oh I'm so sorry. She was a great hen and a good friend.Beetov-Hen left us this morning. I found her body still warm, but against the coop door (as if wanting out to say goodbye)![]()
Well spotted. Yes, normally she flies. It made me smile because it looks like she started out trying to be 'grown up' and walk down, and then got frustrated with the pace at the very end.Yes what a fast hopper! That's pretty nice. But the picture I posted they are 13 days old, yours look like less than a week. They do grow fast, don't they? I should note, Butters had wing feathers right off the bat and looked way older than the others. I wondered if she actually hatched a day earlier, or many hours at least, or grew the feathers in the egg.
Oh, good point! I can try to find pics closer in age!I am definitely feeling better but it feels like a long way to go yet. Ate a sandwich for dinner last night. That's real progress. Even slept lying down for an hour this morning. Haven't done that since Sunday night.

How about you compile a tribute to her with lovely photos so we can all celebrate her life.

Sometimes the answer is 'nothing'I knew it was her time to go, but that thought of “what could I have done better “ is in my head![]()
I know the red squirrels here alarm call for ground predators, i.e., I've heard them get upset at our cat. Squirrels prey on nesting birds; I would think they would be prey for hawks but I can't recall ever being aware of an alarm call for a hawk. I think the chipmunks do though. Will listen this coming season...I don’t think I have ever heard a squirrel calling an alarm.
