I can't pick another black chicken out of loyalty to Bella!
The new syringe and tubing works like a dream. But I fear Bella is going down hill. Her crop is now not emptying. Well, not fully emptying.
She sneezed (as she does) and sprayed chick formula and some meal worms which she had last night all over me.
She hasn't aspirated and apart from the couple of meal worms she 'sneezed' out she has had no solid food for almost a week - just my tube feeding. So I assume her slowing crop indicates that her body is shutting down and I think I will lose her soon.
She is still somewhat perky and interested in her surroundings. She moves herself to the nest box at night and to a corner of the run for the day, but apart from that she just sits and watches what goes on around her.
I am not ready to euthanize because I don't believe she has pain and she is still alert and interested in her surroundings - but I obviously cannot tube feed her if her crop is half full.
☹️
This is not great news. I'm so very sorry. I fear you have done all that's possible. So awful and it just feels so random. :hugs:hugs:hugs

I have a call into the vet. What does she weigh at this point?

Thank you for your answer and those of @rural mouse , @Ponypoor and @bgmathteach . I feel somewhat more at ease. I confess that sometimes I don't even dare ask for news. The time range and the number of posts make it impossible to follow every update, I understand. I agree that it's nice to have a lighter note during sad events, though I'm always dramatic about my chickens 🙂.
I have to say I truly love having you here. I know you would never do anything insensitive on purpose. No one here would.

I do appreciate you asking about it. It's good to discuss these things ahead of time so everyone is aware of what we are all doing.

Yes I remember now

I read too fast and thought I read Xzit I about freaked out 😲😲😲

Not having a good day, it's raining we need it but darn my arthritis and back and legs are acting up. I am just dumb as a stump today
:idunno :barnie:barnie:barnie
I'm certain all is forgiven and already forgotten. :hugs

OMG, you had me laughing so hard!!! My cat does that all the time (and swats all writing utensils on the floor... then looks over the edge of the table at them like 'huh, how did that happen'!!:lau:lau:lau
Bullet had an obsession with dropping pens into the paper feed of one of our printers. Weirdest reason ever for a jam. I figured it was because the pen jar was too close and moved it to a shelf several feet away. Little furball walks over to the pens pulls one out of the jar with her mouth, walks across to the desk, jumps up, and drops it in the paper feed 🤦‍♀️ 😂

Enter My Guessing Game:
My 9 littles, pullet or cockerel? (Yes, a couple are obvious...the others????)
I apologize in advance for some of the photos. They won't stay still!!! They are 4 wks. (or is it 5???) as of Wed.

All have Americauna/EE dad. Moms are one of: BR, Americauna/EE, Welsummer, Cuckoo Marans, and 1 was from an Astralorp.
(Possibly 1 has an ISA Btown, as she & my 1 cuckoo lays same color/size eggs )
1,2,8,&9? Cockerels the rest I would say pullets. I’m going to have to do a cockerel and chick count soon, I think I’ve lost a chick that was weaning but usually a bit of a loner, and I definitely won the cockerel lottery again this year. Might be a record…

I know I will have to pay tax for this but your Bullet reminds me of a cat I had years ago when I lived a city life. It was in the days of fax machines.
I lived in a quirky house that was one room on each floor and had 5 floors. Kitchen in the basement, then guest room, then living room, then bedroom, then home office/study with a fax machine.
I worked in a job where I often had to have faxes come to the house.
The cat loved to sit on the fax machine and shred the paper as it came in. The only way to stop it was to get to the fax machine before it started spewing out paper and hold the cat away from the machine.
If we were in the basement - cooking, or even preparing the cat's dinner - the cat could somehow hear something that told her a fax was about to come in and would tear up the stairs to be at the fax machine waiting.
Even young and fit I was no match in racing a cat up to the top floor!
The solve was to always add two blank pages at the front of the fax. This gave the cat something to shred and was just enough to buy me the time I needed to get there.
People started putting cute messages to the cat in front of all my business faxes!

Random cat anecdote tax: Bernadette likes to stand on my shoe.
