So you know how we have 2/3 of an acre and my neighbor has 1 acre? The chickens used to use the other yard at will . Well, not anymore. Sadly, this is what I see outside my front door now.

The gate is absolutely massive. A large pick up truck can fit through just half of the gate. They no longer have access to that lovely meadow, so we’re going to have to maximize our yard.

Can’t see that keeping a determined chicken out! How tall is it?

I am heading out early as they are calling for snow squalls here right now doesn’t look like snowing but it’s not quite 5am so dark as can be… have a hard day to get to Kenora.

Mr Earl kept me company last night (that’s code for kept me awake haha).

OMG why are my allergies hitting me so hard. Im gonna puke. Cant even get out to let the chooks out they are gonna be so mad lol. It's still cold 25 degrees. Maybe its a cold.

Happy Friday to everyone ! We should finally get some freeze this weekend- six weeks late. It's so warm our potatoes are germinating in the cellar . Hoping for some snow on Monday!
And also hoping the roosters keep quiet at roost times tonight and tomorrow -i'm on my own and don't want any chicken sleeping outside if the temps drop suddenly!

The Friday butts :
Cannelle (in front) has got most of her butt's feathers back and she seems to be doing a bit better . She's began pecking me again vigorously. I take this as a good sign.

Théo the small terror has grown his beautiful tail back and is being the biggest pain in the butt . You can see he still has the shafts on his mane feathers growing out though.

Edited : almost forgot Léa's butt! Gaston is beginning to try to mate her every now and then (she doesn't let him) which makes me think she could be laying soon.

Others have said Great Blue Heron. That was my guess too. They are so elegant! I get one visit from time to time from the nature reserve. I only ever see them solo.

DH thinks they’re going to try and hide something behind it. Remember a couple months ago when they were trying to run a corporation yard over there? The new owner always talks out both sides of his mouth. It’s hard to know what’s really going to happen. He put it on the market for like a fraction of a second and thought he was going to make $400,000 (by increasing the price) in just a few months by doing nothing to it.

I don’t know what he’s going do. If he’s going to build a nice luxury, home, remodel the little shack cabin, just sit on it or what. But there’s no reason that he would need a fence there. Nobody is living there. The building is not really livable. And if he did, why would you put the fence up before doing any building or remodeling?

This is what it looked like two days ago. They had ground the meadow down to dirt with all the traffic, but it would’ve grown back. Notice the deer in my front yard. LOL!

Definitely keep an eye on it. ... and be prepared to call law enforcement...

Feeling much better this morning. I forgot it was Saturday and thought it was Friday lol. No, my hubby isn't getting up early for work. Waiting for the chicks to wake. They are getting so big I'll have to get photos and update everyone. It's only 29 degrees out, I'll wait for the sun before I feed and let the chooks out.
