Brownie:
I shut the girls out in the run this morning, so I could check on Brownie without the entire nosey flock barging in and disturbing her. Then I went around to the coop door.

Brownie got up when she heard me and flew at the tent door (she entirely has both food and water in with her), but clearly she wanted out! So I opened the tent door and she bolted out of the tent and right out of the coop door, I had left opened, to nibble some grass and poop ALOT 😂.

As a result, I stood there for the next 10 minutes or so worried she would decide not to go back to the eggs. She did go back but goodness it is hard to trust nature to do its thing.

While she was off the nest I visually inspected the eggs, one has a tiny dent in it which appears to be caused by Brownie perhaps stepping on it or maybe its an external pip idk?

Best news is that I am pretty sure I did hear a few tiny peeps and scratching type noises coming from the eggs.

Now, can I manage to not go check on her a zillion times today???
I'm so excited for you! :wee

We are praying for you. One thing I am wondering is do you have a medical advocate? Many health system offer them to people with complex health problems. I feel like you could qualify for one. It might really help you to have someone working on your behalf with all of your doctors, etc.

That is a great suggestion.

Hello beautiful girl - you still gleam I see - where are my sunglasses :)

As a recipient I have had much better luck with UPS. FedEx used to leave packages under random trees in the woods and mark them as 'left in the mail room' or 'handed to security guard' (I have neither a mail room nor a security guard). To be fair they have improved recently.
This is the first time I am experiencing loss of a package I sent.
Still very mad.

The @$*%ers have just updated the tracking to say it will now be delivered tomorrow. 24 hours after the service I paid for. And I dint believe it because there is no movement in the package itself so I bet it is still lost.
Wow they sure are thriving! they look great!

I think it is a good move to put them out with your girls, my three have fit in really well, and I attribute that to letting everyone see them from those first early days.

Now they are running around in the barn and a bit outside like pros, they know to run and hide from the beo.... (errr I mean bully girls), and the rest just ignore them. They won't be 3 weeks old until Thursday - and it is miserably cold here but they are thriving! It's still only 6C (43F), this morning it was 4C - and they were buzzing around like crazy, when they got cold they would run under their brooder plate, but that wasn't often.

Can't wait for them to see snow tomorrow morning hahahahaha - mean Kelly! :)

As for your girl, I know you are more than capable of clipping a toe nail short and getting that blood sample. Just wrap her up tight in a towel and then lots of treats after... I have a lot of faith in you 💞

(I will have to do something similar to gender test those silkie chicks, but I think I will get blood feathers instead - their toes are just soooo tiny!)
OK when I say out with your girls I don't mean dump them out there - just to clarify for everyone. I mean introduce them, let them fly and be crazy chicks, get the others used to them. You know - let them be time thieves while you sit on a lawn chair and freeze your butt off :) while they have fun!

What a beautiful dreamy picture.
:love

Good idea on medical advocate.

View attachment 3490038Kren and Whiskey got into it again this morning. As you can see, Horus is circling to get in on it.

View attachment 3490039Hector teamed up with Whiskey  and ended the whole thing. It looked like Whiskey was trying to defend a girl from Kren's attentions. Kren (in spite of his build being better suited to the climate) is looking tastier.

You can also see the work remaining from the clean out. Need to clean the water bucket and start the new bedding. Hopefully tonight. If not, then definitely tomorrow.

Also found Castor. He'd disappeared (again, usually visiting a lady cat). Heard meowing in the garage when getting the chicken feed this morning. He'd gotten himself locked in. (hadn't parked in it for a few days and he didn't make a sound yesterday). Definitely thirsty, but I think it's safe to say the mouse in there is no more. He's had water and is now working on breakfast outside. The chickens (who usually try staging a raid on his dish) have given him space to eat, audience free.
Good for Hector!!! Maybe the idiots 'divide and conquer' strategy won't work anymore.
I do hope Kren smartens up. That said, if he doesn't, you really DON'T want offspring from him, so if he must go to freezer camp, it will probably give you less grief long term if he does.

Poor Castor! Glad he is okay, and sure hope he had 'juicy' dinners the couple of days he was in their. Mice would have given him both food and moisture...even if not sufficient long term on either - enough so he would be okay. (assuming he is a good mouser and caught some!) Glad the chickens recognized the degree of hunger in him and gave him some room. He probably wouldn't have backed away so easily given his current food drive after being locked up for a few days!

Bet you they didn't put it on the truck and just saying it's lost.

Did you send it or your Vet? Either way that's poor customer service on UPS part.

Sorry and sad you have to deal with this ☹️

My camera is charging so I can go get pictures today. My momma's are driving me crazy today. Like expected Holly had to bring her chicks off today. They are almost 48 hours old. What does she do first thing? Bring her chicks to the coop entrance and pick a fight with Gryffyn who was attempting finally to bring hers out of the coop. This spurred Gryffyn to pick a fight with Goose. I had to intervene for the sake of the chicks. Gryffyn got kicked out of the coop and she is with them near Dirts stall. Goose has the entire coop and Holly is staying near the building. Momma Hen, she is still in her crate, I will need prayers when she emerges and throws a wrench in the harmony.

I sent it. Went from vet to home to put Eli back in a comfortable environment and then turned around and drove to the UPS store.
It hasn't moved per the tracking app since 4:30am and it is nowhere near Texas so I don't think they will make tomorrow's delivery estimate either.
